It's a feel/touch issue.

Most people won't like a scalloped fret just because pressure on the string can sharp or flat depending.

Thus you need to have some serious feel to play a scalloped neck vs a regular one. The nice thing is that the scalloped neck is a little faster (imo)

Warning it's been said before that getting used to a scalloped neck can sour you to playing a regular neck again but I wouldn't make that claim personally.

I've never heard of the concept.

Guess I need to get out more. :?

Yngvei Malmsteen plays those kind of necks. Definately faster but I wouldn't want to get use to playing a guitar that would spoil me to not being able to play a regular one. To me it is the equivalent of playing an electric with 8 to 40 gauge strings for a long time, and then picking up an acoustic with 12 to 52s and trying to play it the same way!

Thru the years Ive always played to heavy handed to play scalloped necks, I get all out of tune.

So I guess you could say I dont like them, but Im sure they are great for a person with the right touch.

Nope I don't like the feel of them but it is a personal taste thing. I prefer a stock, well worn-in fretboard. It fits like an old pair of leather gloves in my hands.

To each his own and if it feels good to you, play it.

I'm thinking of ever so slightly scalloping an old Tokia just so I can stone the frets one more time. Otherwise it means a refret

I'm pretty clumsy so I need guitar necks that are exactly perfect for me.

I sold off a nice old Strat because I just didn't feel right on the rosewood neck. Now I have a Strat with a maple neck and a Tele as well with maple and love them both. The feel somehow works just right for me.

I never liked Gibson necks in general but now I have a Firebird and it has become my go to guitar. The neck is essentially flat. Took some getting used to but I love it.

Scalloped? Wouldn't work for me I'm afraid but we all have different hands and as a result there is a wide and wonderful diversity of guitars and sounds and always room for something new.

I have scalloped frets, and the wood between them - the fretboard - is also scalloped.
My fretboard is rosewood, I believe, btw . . .
I don't care for the wood scalloping, for the string stretches a tad more, and there's a slight increase in pitch.
My nails on my left hand - fret-hand - are pretty short, too, I just play a lot.
