We have 3 young men at home (kids) 18,20,20. I am learning at some point you have no control over your kids. Yesterday morning I get up at 4:30am I had planned on making coffee and playing the hell out of guitar. I come down stairs the kitchen light is on and the front door unlocked. Not unusual because the older boys and my wife go out to smoke. I open the door and the two older ones are out front to which my 20 year old says there is a suspicious car with someone passed out, he also said I already called the cops. I go start coffee as brain juices start flowing I remember the 18 year old has a bad habit of spending the night and then coming home. Sometimes he and his friends sleep in there vehicles (drunk) I think to myself surely those boys considered that. I open the door to tell them that but too late the cops already have 2 boys out and cuffed. Sure enough it is my youngest step son and his friend. They are in front of our house. The cops arrest both of them for PI, tow the car. It turns out my eldest called the cops on his own stepbrother. I told them smoking that stuff does make you stupid. So the wife and I had to go bail him out at the cost of $304.00 and a big headache.

Been there and sadly, done that. My stepson finally realized, the hard way, that what I was telling him was gen.

He said it was unfair that cops profiled young males - I told him it was simply statistical - young men are easy pickin's. He finally got it, that 'fair' has nothing to do with it.

Young men - dumb, and full of piss and vinegar. Not like you and me eh, Mr. Haley.

Not only does that suuck but it really suuucks. It's like waking up in the middle of the night and and having to make a major decision. Sorry for my lack of terminology, but what is P.I.

I hope you got a chance to rip some guit later, but 304 bucks would amount to a lot of lawn mowing or such. In NY that would be enough to allow the pistol licensing authority to DENY you you 2 amendment RIGHTS.

Hope you had a good cup of coffee at least.

I usually don't post things like this but I knew I would be talking to folks with similar problems. PI is Public Intoxication. Me and the wife are doing alright in the earnings department but these kids are costing us a FORTUNE. Between transmissions, jail, tuitions, cell phones car insurance, and food I figure they are costing us about $3500.00 a month. I am ready to start breaking plates around here LOL! There will only be two plates remaining Mama's and mine! :x

You gotta be kidding... They busted your son for sleeping it off in a car parked right outside your front door. I would say as long as he wasn't driving DWI what the heck. Even as a kid I would hang out front and and have a beer with a friend that just had to walk 2 doors down. Sounds like he didn't get along with one of the PD there.

Just don't break all of Mama's plates... You will be eating off the floor.

He may be irresponsible but he is respectful to everyone. The cop was just being a dick! The kids will be eating off the floor. Thanks Glen yes I drank coffee and still managed to play guitar for about 5 hrs. I found this software that is also a player. It is called the amazing slow downer. I suggest it to anyone learning cover songs. It is the coolest thing. You can slow down a fast section and loop it. It removes ALL doubt whether you are playing the right notes. It also has a pitch control allowing you to change the pitch so you don't have to retune your guitar to Eflat!

I'd left him to fend for himself.
Pay his own bail or do the jail time.
Hard lessons were / are the only way I learned.

So you actually had a bunch of good things happen. You got to play, enjoy a cup of coffee, find a new program that helps you, and you were handed an opportunity to teach one of your youngsters that there are dickheads... from one little cop to one little president.

As far as covering stuff note for note... I've heard some of your playing when you just let it rip... Awesome.

As far as a tool, that program could actually be a very good thing for young players too. Heck it could help me figure out how I played some of my own stuff... Old age you know.

Best wishes always... I love people that aren't chickenshoots.

That's what I wanted to do George. Mama is thinking about it being on his record and affecting his getting into a good school. He graduates High school this May. She is going to court with him hoping they will give him deferred adjudication. It want be on his record if he keeps his nose clean for 6 months.

Glen that software is the best tool for learning I have ever found. I highly recommend it to anyone wishing to learn. It helps you get your practice time organized and maximizes the time you learn in the most efficient way! You drag and drop the songs you want to learn from iTunes onto this player. I play so much cover music it seems I am always having to learn songs. This is the ultimate tool for it. There is a trial player on their site. I'll post it here. When you buy it they basically give you a password to unlock the trial version after you download it and make it the full version. It is $49.95 and the backup disc is another $10.00. This will be the best $60.00 you will ever spend. For you cover band players.

You may be right... but sometimes the "LAW" gets a bit carried away. It wasn't as controlled back then on both sides.

I am concerned with any civil servant that has become overzealous. This is not a government, by the government, for the government.

I got on a cops bad list once... He hunted me down, stopped me on a lonely rainy road and threatened to blow my ass away. I got down on my knees and apologized... After he left I turned my little tape recorder off.

When I left a copy of that tape at his house... I never saw him again. I should have pursued it and had him fired... BTWTF...

Planetjerk would be bitching about me going after another man's job.

Any way back to the original point Sans... You may be right.

Heard about that 3 years ago - Todd Rundgren's bandmembers used it to learn all the parts when they toured for his AWATS album tour.

Way back when Cakewalk was selling Guitar tracks for win98 they included a free program called SlowBlast. At least I believe that is what they called it. It did the same thing, recording licks and slowing down while keeping them in pitch. That had to be over 15 years ago.

Young and Drunk! the rite of passage of our youth. I guess I now look at it with "older" eyes. No one wants to look at the big picture, your step-son is 18 and was drinking, enough to get drunk...."Illegal".
As far as I know the legal age to drink is 21. I don't think so much that the cop was being a dick he was doing his job, your step-son broke the law. Not only was he under-age drinking, Im pretty sure he wasnt drinking in your driveway so he was also Driving or with someone driving under the influence, not smart.
