It is really about how big your city is and whether or not there are enough players in your area. For example it is worth it to me because I live in a large area 4 million with lots of musicians. At best you can expect for every 20 people you attempt to contact you will get one response. Mostly I use it as a free site to show what I am about. Click on my avatar look at my site, then do your site the same. When putting an ad in your local Craigslist put the link to your site here and prospects can see what your about. I am assuming you don't have a website? Besides this is FREE and not costly like a website. Check out as many sites here as you can to get ideas for your site. Good luck and welcome to bandmix!

The only thing paying gets you is the ability to send messages to others. You may find, if you do this, that you might get a 5-10% response rate - many people register here, then never return, or never check the email address theyused to register for message notices.

get some samples of your work on your profile - MP3s or videos, and in your profile explain in detail what you are looking for.

We build our band here, and continue to gain contacts that lead to gigs.

Is a hammer real ?

It IS . . . but it helps if your willing, and know how, to swing it.

It's what you make of it.

If your profile has no music and just generally sucks, you'll have a tough time.

And what they have said about not being able to initiate the sending of messages is true. You have to be a paying member to be able to start the process of sending messages, but if you get one, you can reply to it for free.

Pittstown? yikes.

I'd concentrate on trying to get a sample you can upload into the "mothership" here and until then, I'd stay "free".

After you flesh out your profile with a pic, some samples and what not, then it might actually help you to pay for it.

Until then, you "take your chances" to be sure..

Even after you pay, reply rate is something awful like 1:20.

"It's never easy" and this is no exception.

But you did get the big part of this, namely the forum.
Most people never even bother with it.
Either they can't read or won't read, take your pick.
And we won't even get into how they write.
(keep your red pen handy) lol

You know I was going to go with the Premium membership, to try to find a bass player, but after reading these threads in this forum again, the last month or two, I think I'm going to pass. I'm really not looking to be any band with computer nerds.

GuitarMike a couple of things you said really pushed me in that direction.

1. You wouldn't normally respond to them cause they don't have anything up on the computer, but I know them thru so and so..... The 2 best guitar players I know don't even own computers, and can't hardly work their phones, but they can play a guitar, that's what they do, not hang out on the computer. Hell I wouldn't have a computer if it wasn't for my old lady, it's just new cable TV to me now, that we got utube on the big screen.

2. Your getting older and our going to quit or scale back if nothing doesn't happen soon. Hell I'll never quit attacking my goals with everything I have, I never think of losing, that's how you win.

I've decided that there is no players on the computer either bm or cl, not much at open mics. So I'll keep carousing the bars to finfd the player I need. FBob I'll be the guy there that's laughing at you, if you ever get out in the bars, the last guy that did a number on me I shot, so I guess I did a number on him, a # 32.

Over the years (yes: years and years and more years . . .) on this site (and other online places), my response rate has been one out of twelve.
Most people are actually quite full of crap.
:)
S'ok . . . I expect little, and therefore
I am not disappointed.

I only come to this forum because Leonard when he was pretending to be my friend, said I should.. I am real bad about keeping on topic, and not contributing more, if I wind up talking to myself here I will understand and I expect very little also sir, I have low expectations, but will honor the site's rules and regulations and might become a premium member in the Spring of 2014.. I never start bands when it's icy and frigid out like today..the Spring time I will either go solo, or add other musicians that can flesh out the sound I am trying to attain.. I know I'm in demand cause whenever I play at the laundromat or at public auctions I gather a crowd complimenting me, even little kids begging their mothers to have me "show them things" on the guitar.. I like to earn money if I show things but have also played with a tip jar out front..

Oh that was fuct, Jeff.

"Lizard Lick Towing"?????

Did you see the one where the biker stabbed Ron Shirley?

I thought for sure he was going home with a colostomy bag.

Too bad he didn't end up a quadriplegic, merry Xmas you hick. LOL

Actually I can't say that, I am slandering the word HICK by associating it with Ronny.

If he ever comes to get my vehicle, he's going to get a new blow hole or maybe a skull skylight.. lol
