sh*t . . . if I had a "six figure" job I'd save up a little money pay all my debt and play full time.

Comes down to desire vs priorities I guess.

The truth is that it isn't hard to start a business, set realistic short & long term goals, work at it smartly and eventually you will have a six-figure income. It might take 5 or 10 years, but you'll be working somewhere during that time anyway right? Why not build something you own in that time?

I find that people are either hosses or bosses, and there's nothing you can do to change them from one to the other. It's a matter of their own personal motivation. Often its not as much work to be self-employed as it is to hold a day job, but it is more responsibility and that's where people shy away.

Jeff, if you take the time to make a good plan and then execute it, you'll be ahead of 95% of everyone else in a few short years. If you don't, you'll be in the same place for many long years.

Life is a series of choices. Good ones lead somewhere....

I have a good job Ted. With retirement and all the benefits you could possibly imagine. Between me an the wife we make way over 6 figures. I just want to find some guys like I am playing with that want to play at least 3 times a month. I won't stop until I find that!

I'd settle for once in a while right now, not much going on around here and the future of what I'm into is uncertain, but with no income it's not easy to go out looking...

I turned down a guy when I first moved here, talked on the phone several times and told him in no uncertain terms I don't deal with drunks and drug problems, finally drove about 25 miles for a jam session one night, he had a beer in his hand all night, I finally decided it was time to call it quits because his playing was so sloppy.

I've seen the same ting as you Jeff, I made $100 a night and more in the mid 80's, when I tell people I want at least $100 now they start backtracking...I have over 20 more years practice and experience, I see no reason to play for half what I made in 1985...

Good luck, hang in there. I don't know any one in Houston any more, moved away in 1991 I think it was. Was beginning to build a decent reputation, knew a couple of really good musicians, but hadn't been able to get everything together so off to this place I went...and the music scene sucks here...

I wasn't saying you should do anything, one way or the other....just that if you make a plan and stick to it, you could do whatever you want.

Why not the Jeff Haley band? you have a studio, pa, and chops...start the franchise.

If it took 5 years to bust out statewide, it would be worth it compared to playing with unreliable jokers for the next 5 years.

Start your own band Mr Haley, it sounds like that's the only way you can get everything you want. I've decided that I'm going to put my own band together and call all the shots, somebody has too.

And Yod the truth is, it is extremely hard to start your own successful business, if it was easy every one would be doing it. I don't care for anyone trying to say my accomplishments were easy. I started a business and worked it hard, 24/7, and achieved success, now I just sit home and play the music. It wasn't easy reaching this point, but its where I wanted to be and now I'm here, financially set, ready to concentrate on the music. Your advise to set long and short term goals is so Business 101, don't just set goals achieve them.

Talking about what other people make ain't gonna get u anywhere, look at u and do what u must.

So what was your plan Yod? You knew u weren't good enough to travel the road with pro secular band, so you went into the religious field of music. To me you religious players who take money from the church are taking advantage of the people seeking the Lord. They come to see u, no, they come to worship the Lord, u just happen to be part of the show with your handout. So keep bilking them Yod , good luck, hope it works out well for u.

Lynard I agree with the first part of your post. You have Yod all wrong bro. I have met with him twice and he's the real deal bro. He is definitely good enough to make it. I have his albums and he can write some of the best music arrangements you can imagine! His voice is the best this site has ever seen (him and Paul). In spite of that he is humble enough to hang out here and give us regular guys advise. He actually helps folks you might say he walks the walk and talks the talk! Having said all that I know it won't go to his head.

I am considering this Ted. I just started the search. I am going to hold out for another band a little longer. If I don't find something by the first of the year I may restart Cruise Control

Missions are not free. Jesus and his apostles made money, spent money, they had an honest budget.
He did not free Himself of the fiscal needs of the flesh.
He lived as we do, only sinless.
Nor does He free us of the needs of the flesh in this realm. We are simply not to worship them, only Him
So many people will to call things sinful that are not, and willing to call what truly is sinful, not.
Either in spite, or ignorance of the Word of God.

Good luck Jeff.
In whatever course you decide is the best.
