Thanks for the input.
Final mix ? ummm I don't know.
Being as we are our own studio PsalmSound we can pretty much do with it what we wish.

A redux of an older song that we re arranged and recorded in the same night.
Likely will be some changes.
I'll pass your suggestions along to the boyz.

I agree that the vocals are hidden in the mix, except the opening line from Genesis. It needs to come up about 5 db

Sounds like the guitar player mixed it with the drummer sitting beside him

I like the groove of the song... I think you know I'm not Christian so I can't really comment too much on the lyric but the "Shouting to the world part" .... good line used well. 8) Keep em coming Sans!

Certainly . . . and I respect your listen / musical input.
( being the founding author of the lyrical content of this particular song, I appreciate the props )
Since our lead guitarist resigned, and then reconsidered / rejoined, his and our concentration has improved.
My comment to the guys after rehearsal last night was "this may sound corny, but I feel we have reestablished the essence of our sound as a band"

Chris is no longer just playing his guitar to our music, it's now his music too.
It is quite evident in the sounds and energetics of this song.
This makes me quite happy. :D

Listening on my computer speakers, the cymbals/overhead mics need to get taken down a notch, drums up (snare has too much high end, needs some depth). Vocals do need to come up a bit, during the second chorus, compression is kicking in too much on the them, maybe backing off the compression would do it for the whole song. Bass tone is a little lacking, was it done DI or mic-ed? I'd add some low end to it. Overall though, good job!

Assume this has not been mastered yet? Usually you send all your songs to be mastered at the same time to give them all the same overall tone and volume. Might have too much compression on this already if it still has to be mastered.

Thanks for the input. Bass was DI, we likely won't be "sending" anything out but doing it all in house.
Our mission budget is not such that we can involve outside resources at this time.

Another reason I value the input here.
It allows us to turn out a better product.

Being as we are our own studio we of course have all of our wav files so we can delete / change any aspect we wish.

i think Mike pretty much pegged it down for ya.
I too like the groove o the song
Nice tune!

Ya know you can get a song masterd for as little as $10. Typically $25 and mastered well for about $70 by Bornamusician.
May be well worth it to be able to release it as a single.

George

Good piece of work. I do agree with the boys about the vox however. Getting the right mix for vocals is all ways a hassle. For me - I just assume I probably need to turn down if I can hear myself clearly! 8)

One question - I don't see how you can hold your guitar so high - my arm and wrist would hate me. I've thought it would be easier to play on occasion if I held mine up high but have found that my right hand wants the guitar down around my knees. (otherwise my arm seems to cramp up)

I always thought rock stars did that because they thought it looks cool but maybe I was wrong. (could that happen?!) I always held the bass low because the neck is sooooo long - but since I'm moved the guitar a lot lower it seems like I can play faster.

Note - not suggesting that for you - you seem to be doing just fine where it is.

I like it George. Good dynamics! The vocals sound a little low in the mix in the intro not the spoken part but when he first starts singing. Is that you playing lead at the end?

Mike: Thanks man.
After many years of abuse, wrist fractures, iron palm training, ETC, I cannot play with the guitar lower than where she is.
The wrist angle required for me to fret lower ( very small hands ) puts my hand to sleep.
The higher up on my chest allows me to keep my wrist straight most of the time.
It also prevents the strap / wireless on the right side from getting tangled up in Smith & Wesson.

Jeff:
Appreciate the props brother, and your input on the mix.
Chris is our lead player now. I do a riff at the end of the first solo ( after the second refrain ) where Chris's guitar fades into my riff . . . it's a nod to the original song and the solo's that were in that arrangement.
Chris being the better guitarist it's a natural to have him lead.
Though there are a lot of songs I get to do short lead riffs on, so I'm happy with it that way.
We, Chris and I, are getting accustomed to each other. I suspect as we progress there will be call response or dueling leads roles.
That will be cool. 8)
