Great FBob glad to hear that's working for you, you can go as "untechnical" as u want but the bass line has occupied the lower lines and spaces of the register for several thousand years, isn't it a disservice to ur self to try not to learn from the pastmasters. Today a click track will keep ur timing in bpm, and I imagine the attack on a bass is similar to the attack on any instrument, after attack a good guitar play will offer release, they call it attack and release. I love it that u sing, that is a good thing.
GuitarMike I've been to that type of open mic, this cute 50ish year old biker chick owned it, she bought me one of her house drinks she'd invented called a "crappy pu**y", it tasted like sh*t. They had a 3 piece band fixing to fire up, and I set in and played all nite, hell they even payed me 30 bucks (I know it's a lot of money), I just got drunk and wailed, after we did 4 sets they wanted me to join the band, it lasted for 2 or 3 monthes but it was fun.
