I know we've talked about this in the past, but I just ran headlong into this asshole again.

http://cnj.craigslist.org/muc/4189892098.html

If you need fake numbers on your social media page, you can actually pay this cretin to give you what you don't already have.

I read this and I feel bad for giving up my myspace artist account with 7,000 people on it.

They merged our site with a child's band, namely the poseurs below.
http://www.starfishrocks.com/

I gave them 2 weeks to fix it and they basically did nothing.
So I closed the account because myspace.com is basically dead anyway.
It just keeps getting worse.

I'm hoping that "fail book" is next to die.

And I think we all know Twitter is for Twits.
That won't last either.."dear god, crush them underfoot, please". LOL

But this jackhat that sells numbers, I hope someone removes his kidneys in a back alley, no anesthetic.

"Nothing worse in this world than to be grouped up with a kid's band".

I keep hearing from people I know that you can pay to get better ranking on ReverbNation as well. THAT should be abolished.

Oh and someone very intuitive told me that if you mess with the browser, you can make SoundClick hits as well.
(I felt like bleeding after I heard that one)

I don't know how to do any of this and I wouldn't be interested, either.

If you can't be honest and get hits like anyone else, then you don't belong, simple as that.

It's all for bragging rights, and in the end means diddly-squat. At least I know with my RN stats is that people have actually played at least part of one of my songs xxxx times (they don't automatically play).

Yeah but Mike, if you pay for those hits, they pay back.

As in enough hits on any social media can get you a gig, you may not be wlecome back after you stink the place up, but you can get your smelly foot in the door this way.

That makes my blood boil.

In a sense, that makes it alright to be a band of "suck".
All you have to do is pay for your hits and you'll have access to certain venues that don't know any better.

I am still working to try to get to play places I really want to spend some time in. Hell, I was even considering playing for free.

This just ads insult to injury.

We all want hits, should we just all cave in a pay for them, fraud or no>?

I don't like frauds and a certain amount of suffering for your craft is therapeutic. "Pain can make you play", don't avoid the pains we take to rise amongst the chattel. They are not fraudulent and they have a purpose.

To avoid all of this means you may find your fraudulent ass in over your head.

"Cheaters never win and winners never cheat"

(Note: new ads on Craigslist for used gear may or may not be directly linked to responses on this thread) lol

I'd out the 2 individuals that told me what I know now about RN and SoundClick, but I don't want to make any waves.

You know them both from here.

Maybe they'll speak. Maybe they won't. SSDD.

I'll leave you with "what is the point of imaginary success"? Is that to make yourself feel good? I maintain that can only lead to misery and heartbreak. Be honest about yourself and what you are.

Anyone that buys hits in my book is a low life, period.
And people that brag, are usually covering for other issues.

If you are good at what you do, your performance speaks volumes.
You won't have to say a word.

scott, do what i do. have someone take some low tech phone videos w decent audio and not too much background noise. preferably at a gig somewhere. then throw 'em up on youtube.

and then make them available to any place you wanna get in. you're giving any perspective venue an honest and straightforward representation of what they can expect. totally "what you see..is what you get". if i was in the position of hiring entertainment that's the ONLY yardstick i'd accept and use.

cos' as you said hits means $hits. facebook likes and "fans"? who cares.
and the rest of (un)social media??? that'd mean absolutely zero to me if i was booking.

i've been using youtube videos w pretty good success for all my deals. it works.

Thanks that's sounds like a great idea, but it still won't stop this scumbag from selling hits on "Fail Book" and other social media.

And I am not all that worried about myself so much as bitter jack asses are going to actually spend $ buying hits.

It should be punishable by taking away all your musical instruments.
And a few days in jail would be perfect.. lol

reminds me of the bit from "Perfectly Good Guitar" by John Hiatt
