Long a personal favorite of mine and a charming eccentric if there ever was one.
One anecdote in his memory: I was bumming around NY not long after the breakup of the Velvets and here comes this dude speeding his brains out and handing out leaflets. He thrust one into my hand and hurried on.
It said simply, "Lou Reed has surfaced and will be at such and such a venue this weekend." I thought damn, only Lou Reed...
Lou Reed was sort of the Bob Dylan of the underground. And now he is on that "great big clipper ship, sailing from this land into that..."
So long Lou. I won't say it's been real - the beauty of it was that is never seemed real, in that boring approach to reality that you always managed to sidestep.
