YOD, we are headed over Sept 23rd thru Oct 3rd, so its still a little ways away.

Update on the music front.

I turned down the offer for the group that played a lot.

But the guy from the other group I sat in with called and said he had another date that his guitarist couldnt fill, he asked if I had an idea for a band name, I said hell yeah, Whos Ur Daddy?, which cracked him up.

We had some really good vocal harmonys. They want me so they can pick up some edgier music. Im interested in them cause they have this funky side I like to get into, plus we will do some slower tunes which I couldnt ever get my other band to do. This guys said you be the Paul Shaffer of the band, we have two pa systems, basically two of everything between us. I will probably sing a handful of songs, he sings and the bassist sings, plus the drummer sings backup. SO it will be an interesting experiment, we even mentioned doing some originals, and ive got 3-4 which might fit this group.

I am joining forces with him, his bassist and drummer, we have a gig scheduled for Aug 24th, plan on maybe actually practicing up a couple of times. So f**k I guess Im back in the saddle again!

Cool, glad to hear it. As you may know from my thread a week or two ago, I recently hooked up with the guys I played guitar with here years ago, we're practicing again so it's looking up. Had to cancel this weekend, Shane just got back from vacation in Florida, dog tired so nothing this week but it's looking pretty good.

This sounds like a pretty good gig for you too, some different music for you to indulge in, and some originals, that's cool as it gets. The guys have agreed we might work on some originals too, so it looks like we're in the same boat...

I hope it goes well for you.

So I guess my next thing to do will be to experiment with what sort of amp I want to use. LOL, actually gonna go thru my settings on my big Mesa, I want to dial in a couple of fairly clean tones, that I can dirty up with distortion and then one channel with my usual in your face tone to it.

Last night I settled on my Mesa Triple half stack as my amp of choice as always, and really went to ground zero on the settings and started over with it.

Ive got channel one in the clean mode, and my goal was to get that clean sound you get out of a Roland Jazz Chorus amp. To my ears that amp is the benchmark for clean sounds.

Channel two I set for raw, normally I have it in vintage, but I set it for raw, and Im aiming at that Fender Twin Tone with just a touch of breakup, I think I got it pretty close.

Channel 3 I set for vintage, where as normally I have it in the modern setting. But I put it in vintage mode and my goal with it is a JCM 800 sound.

I will probably go back in this evening with my ears clear and go thru them and tweak some more.

Its great to do this with an amp sometimes, cause I tend to forget how versatile this amp is.

Then my next step will be to go thru all my effects aand figure out what will work. Of course we have to get a basic song list down.

This group will have an element of classic rock, some funk dance disco, some soul R&B, and I want some slow songs. The list will probably start off kinda standard, but I know in a new group we have to build an audience, I have contacted some of my former fans from AYM and asked them advice on song choice, hopefully if I get this going I can retain some of those people, cause in the end this is business.

Kinda cool starting with a fresh page thou, I havent tryed that in a while.
