Believe it or not.
The guys were shocked "where did that come from" !

It was funny, kinda of happenstance.
Jordon did not show for rehearsal, we apparently miscued on communications, again.

The rest of the boyz were all like "hell . . . lets make some noise."
Worked on some old stuff with Chris singing and then we decided to rework some blues we had shelved.

On the second song Chris voiced that he had no idea how the lyrics would be.
I just told him " play the blues ".
He and the guys picked up in A as I put my guitar down . . . I walked up to the mic and starting singing the lyrics . . . LOL
I freaking SANG !
And no one told me to stop


The best part is . . . they dumb enough to want me to do it again.

This just shows we can do things if we just believe we can!

George, that's the way I started 32 years ago. Singing because nobody else could, out of necessity. The hard part is playing guitar and singing at the same time. Now, you may never be another Bill Blue, or fisherman bob for that matter. but with a little practice you could be more than adequate on a few tunes a gig, and give your band a little versatility. KEEP trying it, you might surprise yourself. (But it might be a little late to take the place of B,B, King...)

Now that you've started ... keep on doing it! Ttell the guys in the band you want to sing lead on a song or two, whether it be ones from your current list or new songs.

Mike T - funny link. I have problems talking in a non-rhythmical way when playing, so introducing a song while playing the first chords sounds bad. Never practiced it, so that's probably the ticket.

The more you sing the easier it gets. I remember the first song I ever sang on stage - "I Need To Know" by Tom Petty. My primary job is to back up the lead vocals and provide harmonies but I occasionally will sing lead.

Go for it George, as long as it doesn't sound like a rabid cat with its nutz in a vice you're good to go...

I've been singing since I was 2, literally, so it's second nature to me. Strangely enough I can't talk while playing guitar, but singing has never been a problem at all. I can't play lead and sing, or along with some tough guitar parts, but usually I do ok.

Main thing is practice at it. but do it for a while and practice pitch control before you decide to record yourself. I guarantee you'll think you sound horrible first time you listen to a recording of yourself. I still don't like to listen to myself sing even after 50 years doing it...I think my voice sucks, everyone else seems to think it's great. The guys I'm working with now like my voice, Shane calls it "unique"...but if they thought I didn't have a good voice and the ability to use it, I wouldn't be playing music with them again. But you never sound the same on a recording as you do to your inner ear.

The most important things are good pitch control and good phrasing. When to breathe is as important as pitch control. Pitch control is numero uno to me, if it's even slightly off I know it and it drives me up the wall...if you have trouble hearing yourself, put your finger in your ear and close off that flap in the middle (you probably know the anatomical name for it) then you can hear your pitch quite well. Even in a loud environment. Ever see the Bee Gees on TV? Remember that guy who always had his hand to his ear, that's what he was doing.

Also don't sing like you're humming along with the radio, that drives me crazy. Singing is a highly controlled yell. I was so loud when I was in my 20's a friend had trouble finding a car stereo that would drown me out...
