I picked up "13", the new Black Sabbath recording last night. Definitely a return to their original sound. Still masters of reality - and heavy metal.

Didn't know they had a new one. Can't remember when anyone put out a new project that captured their original sound this well. Not crazy about the lyrics (like I used to be) but gotta admit they sound just like they did in the 70s. Wow.

You probably won't like "God Is Dead?" lol. But Ozzy actually sings "I don't believe that God is dead".

I heard a couple of songs a few days ago, I actually thought it was something older I hadnt heard before.

Im with YOD, IM at a point that I dont really care for thier lyrics anymore, but I still dig Tonys riffs, he truelly is the Godfather of heavy metal guitar riffs in my mind.

Yea, but he's not talking about the God I know because he says something about God and Satan being equals. I heard them interviewed on a documentary and the bassist made it clear they are all into satanism from the beginning, and credited the ole stinkface with their success.

I used to love them and still recognize they are rock legends, even if it is bringing an entire generation to hell.

Maybe not as many today as Brittney, Gaga, or Beiber though.

yea, golf always seemed like a long waste of time to me. Admittedly, I still haven't tried it. Not much into games.

Rock was always about being bolder than the last rock band, and Black Sabbath always delivered some great rock songs. I admit really digging the way they sound on this cut. That's why they are more dangerous to me, spiritually speaking.

Please though, I certainly don't sit in judgment of them as if I'm a "better person", ok? We're all sinners depending on God's mercy, myself included.

But faith in God (not religious piety) gives one purpose in life beyond what we'd naturally do to fulfill our selfish ways. That's why real faith simply can not be forced upon others. To attempt it is legalism; to accept it would only be an outward change. That's not faith at all!?!

But we live in a time when every man has become a law unto himself, and false prophets are singing their vain philosophies out of every broadcast method available, and they make fortunes!

Either there is a God or there isn't. Creating confusion is enough to do the trick of obscuring the truth. That is a true statement no matter which side of the debate you're on.

Time will tell, right? Yet I know my redeemer lives.

On my second listening of "13" and I can say I recommend it for any metal fan. Sure the lyrics are dumb but who cares. The guitars crush, and Tony Iommi has come up with some awesome leads. The CD ends with the first thing we heard on their debut - a thunderstorm with church bells ringing. Is this Tony's way of saying goodbye?

When I was a security man / bouncer at a large place I kept a few hookers and drug dealers around - they could chill and take five in my place. Only rule was they didn't ply their trade. I got lots of info that way.

With bands I think are really not my kind of bands I allow myself a few exceptions - partly for the same reason. Hence Children of Bodom, Arch Enemy plus milder outfits like Ozz / Sabbath.

My brother used to set up shows at the Omni in Atlanta and told me he saw one of those death metal tough guys cross himself just before the curtain went up.

It raises a philosophical question for me as a song writer. I often write from the perspective of some character other than me, who pops into my head. He might not feel the same way about things as I do, but I'm telling his story, not mine.

yea, I think golf teaches people patience and how to patiently close the deal. I realize that a lot of business gets done during the course of a game, but I can't even play monopoly or chess these days without feeling like I'm wasting time that could be spent writing or recording a song...or booking a tour...or marketing a CD...or whatever. It's really hard for me to relax, which is why I love football. It's the only time I do nothing for 3 hours all year.

And I also really really like the sound of Black Sabbath. It appeals to my basest nature though, and I start dreaming about being a 19 year old and partying all night again. It may not affect anyone else like that, but I can't allow my old idols into my spirit.

Sabbath's lyrics always were senseless ramblings from the mush-brained mind of Ozzy though. No change there. I was actually a little surprised that he's still coherent enough to talk, much less sing.

A lot of the words were from geezer butler - and they were pretty good.

...the hardest "game" in the world is living the life you are meant to live ... now because Life is considered a game much like a video game by the spiritless and braindead. I spoke of Black Sabbath's new Album several Posts ago ... it is good and classic I agree ... nice to see some of those "cutting edge" and "informed" have taken time away from their "holes" and white shoes to be "Musicians" ... good show.

After all even a "politician" whose entire life is devoted to "his people" takes time away from the masquerade called "golf" to at least pretend to be concerned and informed about "those who he professes to serve" with such hypocritical "devotion".

What a truly sick and twisted affair these scraps of what many call life have become ... yet so very few see as they swirl around the drain.
