I want to do a duo project with myself on electric jazz guitar and another guitar or bass player. I can sing in a limited range but can do backup and lead on some songs. I live in South Florida.

As far as the music, I think the advantage will be we can do anything - pop, jazz, folk, rock standards - and do them "our way". Plus origninals, of course.

Anyone tried this format? Any ideas?

I've been wanting to do this kind of thing for a year or 2 myself.
Too bad about the distance between us.
A duo is cool. Finding the right combination of chemisty & ability for just one other musician might take a while.
In some cases, a trio might be easier, depending on the songs.
In any event - good luck to you.

I think that doing originals in this format can be pretty important.
With your eclectic taste in music, you can probably write quite a few songs 'between-styles."
I spent a lot of time learning other peoples music, before I realized that I should be spending the time learning my OWN music.
Once you start writing stuff that's better than your covers, you'll see what you've been missing . . .
Consider it, anyway . . . :)

I know what you mean. I have written quite a few tunes mostly jazzy instrumentals. Right now I'm going to setup a mini "stage" in the extra bedroom and work on playing and singing some of the tunes I used to play or always wanted to learn. It has been a while since I sang onstage, I've been doing a church praise band gig for about 8 years switching between guitar and drums. They have plenty of singers.

Just read your profile - we're so similar, it's scary. :)
Except, I only do a few covers, now.
I play Rhythm guitar and bass, both.
I'll bet if we were closer, that we'd eventually be making some great music together. :)
But - isn't that the way, huh? We musicians always seem to be across the country from each other.

Well, have you heard of Powertab? Great free program for colaboration.

BTW I'll be offline for a few days traveling. Check into Powertab, download it and learn it and we can work on stuff via email.
