You are so right Dane. 1000 epic guitar records were recorded with one of these 3w or 5w specials:

They just sound great!

More epic small amp recordings:

If you need more volume, get a big amp. If you need great tone, get a small one.

my friend, I appreciate your advice on small amps, and I even bid on a used MicroCube on ebay.. I went to 40 dollars and would have cost an extra 21.00 shipping.. 61 dollars total.. after doing a little more reading on music./guitar forums and listening to several youtube demo videos of the VOX MINI3 , I decided to buy a new VOX MINI3 because of the dedicated mic input it had as the MicroCube did not have that feature.. believe the MicroCube is more rugged and several posters said MicroCube has a better Marshall stack tone compared to MINI3.. but many were against COSM on microcube

Now that would depend on if you are a clean or dirty picker, wouldn't it? And they would not suffice out doors. I guess you can have your small amps and I'll stick to my 12" - 15" JBL and Celestion speakers for my tone. When you pick squeaky clean you are limited in your choices.

I guess it is all personal taste. I haven't seen or heard of any Nashville country pickers using small amps in the studios for that clean country pickin. Neither do I see many rockers with stacks of small amps on stage behind them, for that matter. :)

No problems with small amps here. :) They're cute, but I also like 3/4 scale guitars.

Everybody should choose the amp that best suits their style, but lots of country players use smallish amps for great tone both recording and live.

Steve Cropper and Albert Lee- Fender Harvard 10w
James Burton- Fender Deluxe 20w
Chet Atkins- Standell amp 25w
Brad Paisley- Dr Z Maz 18w

And yes, all of them are very cute.

the VOX MINI3 come in the mail today, and I am in love with it.. I think I must feel like HALEY did when he got PRS guitar .. you can't real;ly set it down it is addictive running through all the sounds it makes.. and CLEAN and pure.. it is a million times better sounding than that Peavey Decade is.. it does not sound like a distorted can like the Decade

A surprising variety of good guitar tones and just enough sound for a little busking on a boardwalk at the beach. Not designed to run with a full band but I think it has a line out so you could run it through a PA in a pinch. $139 new, $50 on CL.

Here is one in your area and he has a nice cord and AC transformer to go with it. Bring $80 and offer him $60 if it checks out in good working order. These amps are pretty bulletproof but if it was dropped hard it could have issues. Trust your ears.

just to let you know J7 how much out of touch I am the last 5 years or so, I did not realize until a couple days ago, that Guitar Center had bought out the old Music City that was run and owned by the Norris brothers, their sisters (THE NORRIS TWINS) sang on HeeHaw.. and getting back on point, Guitar Center might have had a MicroCube to test drive at least their online catalog says they sell them, but whether one was in stock at the South Springfiled, Mo. store is another matter.. but I am very happy and over 100% satisfied with the VOX MINI3.. I know darn well I can mic it into a PA system if I have to.. it does not have a line out however..

Over this way we call it "Guitard Center" because they will rob you with your eyes open.

Test your amp, but please do not buy anything from GC.
They are completely without remorse.

Guitar Center took over here in East Atlanta when Mars Music went down. I have no complaints with them. They have treated me pretty damn good.

You are lucky. We have a "guitar center" and a "sam ash" across the street from each other in Springfield and it's like the who's who of the rich and infamous.

Basically we avoid them like the plague because they inflate all prices by 75% and then have a 50% off sale.

If you don't know what you are doing when you go in there, chances are you will spend some money and you won't get what you need to do the job at hand.

The only thing worse is if you are dumb enough to actually try to trade them some used equipment. That never works out with them. They are so cheap, they squeak when they walk.

Pete Townhend was using a bunch of small amps on the Quadrophenia tour - Twin Reverbs and such, no more banks of HiWatts. I bet he looks back and regrets those now (with his major hearing problems).

Hehe, I'm not sure I would put a Twin Reverb in the same class with the other 10-20w small amps listed here Mike. With 100 watts and 2x12 often JBL D120F, those things are good for 125 db and they can cut you in half!

True enough, but I was referring to Slacker's statement about 'stacks of small amps behind rockers' - they just aren't needed any more. Everything is mic-ed to give the best overall sound to the whole venue. Loud amps on stage just imbalance the sound that the audience in front hear. Those who use anything larger than a Twin these days are probably overdoing it unless they are in a loud band that is NOT mic-ing the amps.
