Mike - Just a neighborhood thing. We seem to have a dumbass or two around here who knew nobody was home. And took advantage of it.

Jimmy - That's what you get for doing your own thinking. You're supposed to let Jeff do that for ya. lol

OK seriously, you're relying too much on a stereotype. Yes many people in this area do have guns, most in this neighborhood now try to keep a shotgun for home defense, but not that many have anything that would be called a "cache of weapons". A shotgun and a .22, deer rifle maybe, some like to keep a pistol around. 99% of the time it's primarily for hunting and home defense. Nobody around here I know of has 23 guns of every description...just one or two for hunting and home defense. Like me. I Have 4, a .22 rifle (single shot made in about 1945), .22 pistol, 16 gauge pump and my father's .243 I got when he died. I might shoot the .22 pistol twice a year...just to plink a bit

It's way out in the country, but I think even out here we have some crack heads to deal with, but so far except for one incident it's been people who were not at home. And that time the guy thought nobody was home...

I'm not moving, I'll stick it out, I don't expect much more trouble with break ins with someone living here now, and I'll find some music sooner or later...Supposed to be getting together with some friends to do some recording, but it hasn't happened yet. Soon as I get my Champ fixed, I plan to record a bit at home with it. That shouldn't be too long, I just ordered parts for it. Then I can take it to a friend's house, he has bass and drums...I have the Wurly...might get something done some day. Been working on some tunes, and just got the beginnings of one started, just a rough track so I can remember it, now I have to try and think up some words...my weakest point. I can think on it all day and not have a full verse yet...in fact, I've been running it through my head for 3 days, don't have the first line yet...it's infuriating...

But I did get in touch with a local guy who might be able to point me in the direction of some of the musicians here, so I might be making progress. Going to try and meet up in a few days and see what happens. No band in it, he already has 2 guitar players...

It's not all that bad, I just got here and don't know anyone, have to give it some time.

On this side ...

Never heard back from the first guy who showed interest. First he said he had some interest from a band and might be auditioning for them last night or tonight. I asked him twice for some songs that he can sing so I could practice them before he auditioned with me - no reply with songs.
I'm going to wait until tomorrow then contact the trio he is leaving!
Doing another Open Mic tonight. Planned 3 songs: Drift Away (Dobie Gray), Signs (5 Man Electrical Band/Tesla) and my newest song, Boston Beckoning.

Small turn out last night at the OM - barflies and the people playing, so I ended up doing 10 songs. 8)

Paleopete - sounds like you are making progress on the music front. You said everything was 2-3 hours away, but it looks like Houston is a lot closer to you than that. Must be something beside the oil business going on there!

I hate nights like that. I've had to play before all night with no more than 3-10 people...it's a drag. No crowd, even if the few do like it you still have to work for it...sorry it was so dead. Sometimes there's a reason. Like the night I Had to play in Austin and nobody showed up...turned out Joe Walsh was at the coliseum about 8 blocks away...( ditto when it was Yes, AC/DC, etc) then there's football games, any time UT would have a home game it was a dead night till close to midnight. If UT won it was a happy madhouse, if they lost we went home early...

Houston is almost exactly a 3 hour drive from here. I've driven it many times, originally moved here from Houston. Best thing I ever saw was Houston in the rear view mirror...(sorry Jeff...) Austin, 5 hours, San Antonio, 6, Dallas 4 or so...Closest place is an hour away, Nacogdoches, but it's a college town, better be playing grunge or hip hop...

It'll get better, just have to get back into the scene around here.

But it wasn't totally empty, and those there were listening. I had everyone singing/shouting along and clapping (more reaction than anyone else got) for 3 songs: Drift Away, Hang On Sloopy and Good Lovin'.
