At my last check there were 11 out of the 50 "United" States that had a larger welfare role than taxable workforce.

At risk of sounding trite . . . THAT is unsustainable.

When I was in Detroit recently, I noticed a kind of (for lack of a better word) "blunt" depression. It's a noticably different kind of depression than I've seen anywhere. It's as if they have been used to it for a very long time and don't even notice it anymore.

I really think the reason Detroit is the most cursed of large American cities is because of Henry Ford and Father Coughlin siding with the Nazis against the Jews in WWII.

Genesis 12:3 - Those who bless you (Israel) will be blessed and those who curse you will be cursed.

That would also explain why Detroit, of all places in the USA, has become the largest American home of those who hate the Jews today (muslim)

No doubt that sounds too metaphysical to a non-believer but history shows that this is a law as certain as gravity. It could all be turned around with repentance.

Fat chance, eh? :-)

Well, believe it or not, I've started working with some folks there to address the root of this curse. Detroit is too great a city to let it rot like that.

Detroit has always had crooks in power, people who have drained the city. Meanwhile, poor people (mostly from the south) moved here to work in the factories when they were booming. Unfortunately a lot of the jobs are gone but the people are still here. Over the past ten years many have relocated to other places but the poorest are stuck here. As far as the whole Jew hating Arabs go, I don't see it. We have large populations of both, as well as Mexicans, Polish and other people. I've never heard of a Jewish-Arab hate crime around here. I have heard of people like Terry Jones coming up here trying to cause trouble.

After Detroit, I spent a couple of days in Pittsburgh studying Carnegie steel and after that, a couple of days in the mining areas of West Virginia.

American industrialism made this country a super-power but at a high price for people in the steel, coal, and auto industry before reforms came. Detroit didn't recover like the rest of those places though.

Yet.

Not all Arabs are muslim, and I'm not talking about race as much as religious ideology.

It's encoded in their book waiting to be exploited.

Terry Jones is an idiot who should mind his own business. However, he provides a good illustration of the social double-standard we have in the USA when he is singled out for being a jerk but groups associated with liberal causes are celebrated when they do the exact same thing.

No one is stuck anywhere, that has a will.

What I mean by stuck is, their families are all here, they have no money for a moving van or even anywhere to go. But you are right, no one is stuck if they have the will. The problem is, a lot of people have no will anymore.

I know many people from Detroit, who now live here in El Paso. They are very good people, very industrious, intelligent. They enjoy living here for a variety of reasons (Weather being one). None want to move back.

Despite our differences, you and I again find occasion to be in total agreement.

That explains the "blunt" depression that I saw when I was there.

A LOT of Michiganers have been moving into Texas. And of course, you are all welcome.

I think you'd fit right in with Texas, Jimmy. Lots of great guitar players. There is this guy down in Houston.... lol

What laws did these crooks pass that drained the city? Just taking a few million off the top for themselves doesn't drain a city's $2,600,000,000 budget.

It's been going on for decades and is a lot more than a few million off the top. If you want to do business in Detroit you have to grease the wheels, which is why the mayor went to jail. Meanwhile the tax base has eroded, to the point where the city will run out of money by June. We have an EM in place but it may be too little too late.

It's another sad state of affairs affected by other cities.I do think it's a theory of the bigger you are the harder you fall and the devastation that is left behind is something you can't can't recover from.I lived and worked in Detroit and the surrounding area for years.I've seen the different sub cultures that are there.Damn good people that had hopes of just living in a community that you want to spend your life. Now,not enough to get out,no where to go,no skill set to take with you,and no room for me any where else.God bless the people of Detroit.
