Hey, guys.
I've been away from this place for quite a while . . . what's the current atmosphere like?
Have I missed any good topics in the last few months, or site changes or anything?
Alan

That poor guy "Cliffy", I feel bad for him.

We all tried to help him but he just got obstinate and then told us we were being trolls. lol (Yeah I ripped on him a little bit for being a fag. lol)

And that wouldn't have even been that bad but he'd post 10x and enumerate in great details what WE were doing wrong to help HIM. Like we were hiding information that would get him to where he'd need to be. He was quite delusional on more than one level. lol

Next thing you know it was "kangaroo time" and that in of itself was funny.

How many keyboardists go out and dictate what they are going to do?
Ok and now how many of them actually work? (non-pros)

I think he would have been better off just trying to play music for anyone's setup that would even have him.

Yeah, there's always "that one guy," every few months or so, who comes around and basically rains on everyone's parade.
:D
Me?
I've had a few students, took on an apprentice, have folks over to play guitar and sing and such . . .
I've been working on several new songs; my other musical interests take time, though . . .
I started running a couple open mikes, 2-3 times a month.
One's a little coffee house, where I fill-in a couple times a month; it's fun, easy, and relaxing.
The other is a Performing Arts organization, where I run the open mike once a month. Great talent there - anything goes, all styles . . .

Open mics are a great chance for folks to get more experience playing in front of others. Hopefully you get a little cash in pocket for moving the equipment around and keeping folks happy!

I go to a few different open mikes . . . each one has a different 'character" to it . . .
One place tends towards blues, folk and oldies, another tends towards rock, southern rock & Americana; another is mostly country with some folk and blues and rock, another is mostly all originals, all styles.
It's good to be around all those different styles of music, there's a lot of cross-pollination going on . . .
Yeah, I'm paid . . .
I've met a lot of good people and good musicians at these places . . .
.
For most open mikes, the host plays for 20 -30minutes before opening the mike.
Not me.
I play just 2 songs, and then open the mike.
And I don't feel a need to play the last 3-4 songs, either.
And if we end the list early, I'll let the people go around again. I might close the evening with 1 or 2 songs . . . but I'm there to give newcomers an opportunity to get started.

That's the way to run an open mic.I've been to some to where the host actually makes it there own show.Great job of giving it to the people and not to yourself.Well done sir.
