I guess you didn't see it in the other thread, I'm in Punta Cana. But I can recommend some places if you want.

oh darn, no I didn't see that.

Have a great vacation and, yea, get offline while you're there.

Can you recommend a good live music venue for a Tues-Thursday?

If you want to see some live music check out PJ's Lager House http://www.pjslagerhouse.com/. It's in Corktown on Michigan Ave, the area is not too bad, a lot of hipsters are buying property there and fixing it up. This brewery will be opening soon http://www.modeldmedia.com/startupnews/ ... 12712.aspx. If you like BBQ check out Slow's, it's on Michigan Ave a couple miles west of Lager House. If you like Mexican hit Mexican Town, 24th and Vernor.

Thanks for the tip. PJ's was a cool vibe. Saw 3 pretty good bands (Dale Roberston, the Pounders, and ?) with a good jam session at the end.

Excellent! I love playing at Lager House (I still call it that even though it's PJ's Lager House). For a little room they pack a lot of people in there. The sound is always good, the drinks are always strong and they also stream the show live. I'll see if I can find the link, they only leave it up for a few days.

Rock city!

Detroit definitely didn't disappoint. There was a sense of "brotherhood" amongst the bands and the patrons, all supporting each other.

Wish I lived closer, and I hope to see you guys someday. Planning a trip back through early next year.

Yes there is a sense of unity but it's still a clique-ridden town like anywhere else. This weekend is the infamous Metro Times Blowout, where you can get a bracelet that gets you into a bunch of venues for over 200 bands. But there is some controversy, this year they are allowing non-local bands, and also some bands are getting 2 or 3 slots while other bands are shut out. We are not part of that scene, thank you very much. Glad you enjoyed yourself, hopefully next time we can hook up.

sounds like more of the same ol' attitude "why should i care about local musicians if i can make more scratch bringing in someone else".

that's everywhere but it was cool that the late band came in early to hang while the early band played, and then the early band stayed to the end of the night. You could tell they didn't know each other, but yet all 3 bands supported each other. Ah, phileo love.

Two hundred bands? That is a daunting figure yet I shouldn't be surprised in a city that large. Somehow it just doesn't seem like there are lot many venues any more.

Detroit has a lot more venues than another city it's size, it seems.

There are a few cities that have more venues-per-capita than others, like Asheville NC, Austin TX, Toronto, Detroit, NYC, etc
