yep, it's all been done before. Look at all the new popular 'alternative' bands using banjo or other folk instruments along with the normal electric stuff.

i was recently bitching about why i don't like current country music.....and it's one of the things that bugs me most about 95% of popular music now.....it is sooooo friggin' dumbed down that it actually pains me to listen to most of it.

and fewer and fewer recordings have BANDS playing together in a room at the same time. yeah, '60's, 70's....there were always overdubs and not EVERYTHING was played "live' in the room.....but at least it FELT that way.

now, it's just one crappy and mind numbingly simple trk built upon the next. w drums and drum sounds, that if they weren't programmed... SOUND like they are.

Dude that really nails it lol. Especially the part about the dumbing down ..

I remember talking with one of my band mates about covering more 80's stuff a while back.. We decided that we wouldn't do it because the songs are so much more complex and difficult to master that it would take too long.. we're talking basic 80's pop and rock here.. LOL.

Yeah todays pop and country are pretty dumb.. it does physically hurt sometimes. The "modern rock" scene mixing banjos and mandolins, violins, etc with electronica at least has some life in it

Teach your children well... have an influence on those closest to you. That's where the answer lies. imo

Well it's nice to hear from some rational thinking people in the US, i think us Brits are the ones who are being institutionalised by the likes of Cowell and his cronies.
I think the pay your dues to get there way is long gone.
the traveling miles just to perform is our past.A quick video on you tube and your the next sensation it's not a culture we as examples for our children musically have left ourselves the world wide web has formed our future.
Did the music really die when Buddy holly die or was it reborn with the Beatles.Where is the I payed my dues.
