Crew Morale (and subsequent survival rate) has been shown to increase, when the crew's members latch on to a belief system. It gives them a base reference and an ulterior motivation to keep moving, and to stay alive to see it through.

As a veteran, I'll take a believer any day over an athiest as a partner in a fire fight... , since weapons cant think for themselves and are only as good as the underlying spirit that utilizes them...
