That blog was from 13 years ago. Both of them have successfully made a lot of money since then while people here are backbiting how they did it.
I suspect peg posted that because her and mdh were discussing kenny g's merits (and lack thereof) in another thread.
or maybe she put it up to generate discussion on something besides the bible or the constitution (BOTH of those items being much older than 13 yrs old...yet you and others never tire of discussing those)
Those who love Louis Armstrong don't have to buy Kenny G. Those who love Kenny G don't have to buy Pat Metheny.
What is the big deal?
i'll ask you the same. what's the big deal? if you find the thread irrelevant or of no interest no one is forcing you to participate.
it makes just as much sense to me to discuss the PM/KG thing as it does endlessly discussing your or my political and religious views. really ....i could just easily ask you "what's the point of that"???? you're not changing anyone's views. neither am i. so why?
Musicians piss all over the sacred every day. It's the schtick that sells their latest pile of feces.
"every day"? not sure i agree....but either way....what's the harm in discussing this? we've batted around far more goofy $hit on this site.
I'm not saying it's wrong to have a discussion about it. I just don't see the point in criticizing someone for making a living, whether I personally like what they play or not.
Kenny G has never appealed to me, but someone is buying it. Good for him. If he plays over someone else's music and gives them credit for it, then that person is receiving royalties they wouldn't otherwise be getting. Yes, Louis Armstrong's estate is profiting from KG's "blasphemy" so, imo, he's doing a good thing even if I (or anyone else) personally hates the results. It's not impossible that this idea came from his label telling him it was going to work.
Peg is a great jazz bassist...with good original music and nice legs! She obviously feels the need to protect the art from the corporate hack. But its not like she wouldn't appreciate someone performing her music and putting royalties in her mailbox even if it sucked.
I've recently had a couple of songs covered by a major label artist who changed some verses (with my permission) so he could get a piece of the song. It totally ruined the song, imo, but so what? I'm smiling on my way to the bank, and his version forces a comparison in my favor through the ears of those who have heard my original version.
Just like when I mentioned the guitarist in Warsaw who fills open dates on his band's schedule by hosting karaoke on week nights, I have to wonder how many on this list have tried paying the bills as a full-time musician?
Not every day is going to be your best one, but you try to do what you think will pay the rent this month and worry about next month when it gets here.
