The universe is a cruel place?
Not really.
It just IS.
It's not cruel or kind.
It doesn't have any motivation one way or another.
Example:
The other day ago I answered an ad on Craigslist for a video projector, pretty cheap.
The woman selling it wanted to meet me at a Wal-Mart, a long distance from my home.
So, okay, I figure it's a really good deal and I want that projector, for our band to use at shows.
My car is falling apart, dude; no muffler, the doors are falling off, the trunk and hood won't close, no heat.
My feet go numb driving in the cold.
I cannot drive it on the freeway or the hood will fly up over the windshield.
It sucks.
But, amazingly, it still runs.
So, I drove all the way out there to meet this woman and buy her projector.
I look for an hour in the cold and cannot find her.
We must have missed each other.
So, a little annoyed and frozen to the bone, I drive back home.
The gas is getting low.
So, I know I need to find a gas station soon.
Only, I didn't find one soon enough and she died on me...halfway from home.
I was pushing the car out of the way when a minivan pulled up beside me.
An asian woman, Korean I think, asked if I need help.
I told her I was okay.
But, she helped me push it anyway.
I was gonna take a gas can and walk to the nearest station.
But, she offered to drive me.
It was a few miles.
So, that was cool.
And then, she offered to drive me back to the car, after she dropped something off at a friend's house!
So, I only had to wait at the gas station.
I got warm, had some coffee & donuts, and even used the bathroom.
She wasn't gone long.
Just a few minutes.
So, I gassed up the car.
A cop was watching me suspiciously, as if I was stealing my own car or something.
But, he pretty much left me alone and just stood there with his lights flashing, while I gassed up.
The next day I couldn't find my wallet.
I was worried that I may have left it at the gas station or beside that road!
But, I went out to the car and there it was on the ground, in plain sight... undisturbed.
It must have fallen out of my pocket.
So, all in all, it wasn't exactly a great day.
But, it wasn't ALL bad either.
The universe isn't cruel or kind.
It just doesn't really give a damn one way or another.
