After drinks and dinner, then walking around Boston Common to see the lights, we headed indoors for Starbucks sober-in-a-cup and caught half of a set by a cover band in the spacious food court there.
This band played covers of Prince ... and Wings! I'm not a Prince fan, but my wife says they did pretty good on a few (considering they were all white!) The lead singer, however, sang the Wings songs like Prince - Uncle Albert, Band on the Run and 1985.

Ok .... but what's that got to do with cover bands doing the songs? Our bass player wants to do 1985, alhtough one of Macca's better songs, I'm not sure it would be that good for us to do, rather than one of his more rock-y songs like Junior's Farm, or High High High.

I might be wrong, but Concord Music Group would probably want paid for performing songs they license?

Never heard of any cover band paying to perform songs - the venues have to pay their BMI/ASCAP fees, but I would guess that places like where I saw these guys play only have music 1 night a year, so don't pay for a license.
