I know this topic is going to spur HEATED debate. Please lets be nice to one another?

My question is do you think it will be avoided? They are saying the drop dead date to have an agreement is this Friday. They have to have a deal by then in order to get the bill thru the house and senate! Thoughts?

The only fiscal cliff is self-inflicted.
This is like a rerun of the debt ceiling fiasco awhile back.

Raise some taxes /cut spending
the two things either party wants to do ....
I dont think the economy can get in worse shape then it is.
Can we throw Congress over the cliff ?
:D
As for the debt ceiling - things like this happen
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said last week the latest estimates of Sandy-related storm costs in his state were $36.8 billion, while Cuomo told reporters the total cost in his state was $41 billion.
They are gonna need Fed help ....

You could raise the taxes...why? That's just a bunch of greedy little bastards wanting to steal someones money so they can sit on their asses and leach off the few that are working. They think that if they get everyones money the "Wealth would be spread" What a bunch of Nimrods. The debt thing is a fiasco used to get more money from us and into regime hands.

What happened to the stimulus money? It went into the pockets of those supporting the politicians and the rest went into the politicians pockets. Taxing everyone on this earth alleviate world debt. If you took the total income of everyone who works for a living, every penny, it wouldn't pay off the American debt for years to come. And you could only do that once. It's the spending, and that has already done its damage. The only thing that would make any difference is if the economies of the world collapsed and we all started over again. That would work because most of us would die for lack of food and essentials needed for survival.

So who gives a rats ass other than those who have been gobbling up this facade of an argument. Anyone have any idea of how much debt we REALLY have?? If you do you would understand that this is nothing that can be fixed under any circumstances. We have been in debt cliff free fall for years. Only the brain dead don't understand that.

When illegals get all manner of benefits paid with taxpayer dollars and now even scholarships these socialists have added even more debt as they pretend to be serious about cutting debt. They're all a bunch of thieves. Making theft legal is still only legalized theft. It is only that the crooks who rob you use a fountain pen instead of a gun. Perhaps they should outlaw fountain pens to cut down theft in America.

Me thinks if you can ask a kid to go to Iraq and fight for our freedom and die we can ask those among us to pay a lil more in taxes. For the good of the country ?
WE just had 10 years of TAX PHUKING HANDOUTS to the wealthiest of Us for GODS sake.

Are you willing to pay $2200 more per year in taxes if the Republicans refuse to give in? That's what you'll be paying, which is fine with me as long as those greedy rich people pay more.

There will be NO NEW TAXES...They'll just raise the old ones.

It is never going to reach an agreement because both sides want the other to "lose".

The real loser will be the middle class and all the people that are struggling to get by.

You know what ?
They should just do that.
It is a bigger step in the right direction then the watered down version they are working on now.
The economy will be like this for years anyway

I am seeing things like Obama wants NO debt ceiling. The republicans have no bargaining power because they are going to get blamed for going over the cliff anyway. The Democrats want us to go over the cliff its a win win for them. They get the "revenue" they want and they get to blame the republicans which will prolly be the end of that party.

Perception is reality. The "bad guys" in these negotiations is the Republicans, rightly or wrongly. Obama was swept back into office because he and his propaganda team fed the masses the "we need to have the wealthy pay a little more" line of bull, if in fact that is bull. What desperately needs to happen is a much more efficient system of paying for goods and services. The problem isn't the programs, the problem IS the manner in which they are funded, or as is the case with our burdensome, wasteful system, the way the programs are NOT funded. The fiscal cliff argument is a national disgrace. The Dems and Repubs are hopelessly outdated and need to be replaced by a political party that is entirely practical, where greedy supporters don"t receive a shred of payola. Of course, that's in a perfect world where people operate honestly. This same crap happens over and over again, year after year, and we are like sheep when we all go to the voting booth year after year and keep electing these same two parties, which have long seen their usefulness vanish. So, whether the fiscal cliff is avoided or not, it really, in the long run, is not going to make a damn bit of difference, unless a viable third party emerges to send all of these inept political vultures packing their bags, never to be ripping us off again.

If you think about it, the 'Fiscal Cliff" plan is just another sleazy way for DC to hide the fact that America has no Fukin jobs (Out side of being a Walmart greeter).

These tax plans all lead to one objective... Extend the existing unemployment bennies while Congress tries to figure out what to do about the unemployment problem. ALl in all, its a stave-off strategy.

In the meantime, America is so broke that the last viable fix to support the bennies is to tax the crap out of the rich.

They tried to hit up Asia and EU, who basically told us to go fuk ourselves...SO this is what its come down to:
In the next 1-2 years, your existing taxes will go up, period. (Medicare issues are irrelavant. )

...Nothing .... I repeat nothing can fix the "fiscal" issues. The Government and it's people have long ago jumped over the cliff ... willingly and now the lemming livestock are beginning to realize they are falling and the "end" or "bottom" is very near ... so they are screaming. the political filth driven by nonexistent greed are still proclaiming that they are "Flying" despite their obvious plunge. There are a few "idiots" who did not leap over the cliff with the rest of the livestock and are peering over the edge and looking in wonder ate the carnage ... all knowing that despite not jumping they will nevertheless be "impacted" in a very negative way as well.

There is a man named Max Keiser ... a gifted individual who has predicted that this April will signal the impact of the Dollar, financial world and it's political filth along with the rest of us. I tend to believe that he is indeed correct in this.
