The Doobies Biggest hit Black Water was dance-able. Great to skate to, (great for skating rinks), and stands alone for moving a crowd to a single beat like nothing I've known. Just about any other #1 hit has been covered. Picture this- Any one (band), cover this song. Takin' it to the Streets could be done by many, with a piano. Paleopete could do Black Water by himself.

The Mediteranian Sea Is the Blackest water I've seen and will never forget. It is not the only thing europeans have in common, but their inky black taste of everything they produce including beer and cigarettes.

The Doobie Brothers are one of my all time favorite bands. I saw them just as they were reuniting back in 1990. Just about every song they have recorded has a danceable groove to it. Those guys sure have a lotta soul for white guys! Well, all except the bass player he ain't white! My experience is when you have at least one black person in the band it changes the dynamics in a very positive way. Perhaps that was the case with the Doobs?

I didn't know that much about the Doobs but it's good information. That withstanding, I think any "mixed band has a high rate of success if and when thy put their colors aside. Like anything else, it puts a perspective into the sound that all can get into the groove.

I'm glad you corrected that, I could probably do it, not by looping of course, but it would be a very tough one...we've kicked the idea around with the guys in Texas and might still try it, but we've shied away from it so far because we really don't have the 5 or 6 singers it takes to really do a good job of it.

We'll be getting back together when I move back I think, we've already started working on South City Midnight Lady, China Grove, Rockin Down the Highway, Long Train Running is already in the bag, and a couple of others I can't think of right now. I'm not sure if we'll try Black Water, but it might happen...if we can put together decent vocals...might also try Pure As the Driven Snow, we've kicked the idea around but not sure about that one yet either.

Other non Doobies tunes either definite or very likely - Southern Cross (already did a video), Sultans of Swing (they insist), TV Dinners, Life in the Fast Lane (recorded but not finished, Shane wants to redo vocals), I Can't Tell You Why, Salt in my Tears...that's all I can think of right now but when I left we had started working on Renegade, some tough stuff.
