Haley, I think you have to be pretty, talented and have some major backing.

I know on here we slam people like Lady Ga Ga and Justin Bieber, but these people have way more talent than most of us give them credit for.

Watch the way these folks rehearse for tours, its total entertainment. The total package, most of us here only deliver music, and Im pointing the finger at myself when I say that.

I don't think any of these artists would fall under the category of"pretty" They may have image but not pretty. Some more successful than others but they all have "the goods" as in good songs!
Mumford and sons, Black Keyes, Band of Horses, Siversun pickups, The Alabama shakes...
It may be difficult but (hasn't it always) the industry still finds good music.

I totally disagree about the talent assessment. GAga is T&A , able to hold a vocal . Beiber is a Bubble-gum singer able to hold a vocal. Both have physical appeal to their respective markets... Beyond that, in 10 years from now, aint nobody gonna be talking about Gaga or bieber in the same breath as 'music' Both have somebody writing their material for them, and they have all backing that a Don -Kirshner model can offer. They are proof that you can pull wool over the public eye and call it musical artistry... Its pitiful really...
