http://youtu.be/htNylwX4bm8

I Went to High school with this fella...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Deutrom
The Cars got thier start out of Columbus, Ohio at the Agora. Columbus is the world capitol of test market.

The Melvins got started in Cali I think. But Mark Deutram got started in England, Moved to El PAso, Attended high school for a year in EP. We had morning classes together... (Everybody was such a stoner back then...) I even went to his house once and met his mum. He moved on after a year...I'm not sure where or if he even finished high school...

A Wank festival! wow ... I'd rather listen to this banjo player any day

everything you know about guitar playing I could fold up and put in my wallet

I have had the pleasure to work with some excellent guitarist on many occasions. From that I learned to appreciate their phrasing, soulfulness, their seemingly effortless melding of melody, harmony and rhythm.

You cannot fold it up, because you can not even touch it .. it is clearly so far beyond your present reach that you can not see it.

big talk

sometimes but not often

no disrespect to the bass, I love any musician who can make things happen.
Barry Oakley, Jack Bruce, Stanley Clark,
these guys are a great listen, lots more I'm sure
I haven't made a great study of bass guitar.
for good reason.

You calling Vinny out?

Or you slinging mud in my direction?
(packs snowball with rock in the middle)

Warning: This is a trap. lol (wink)

When I hear a good bassist I think of people like John Paul Jones or Roger Waters, but that's just my tastes..there are a bunch of them depending on which flavor(s) you like on any given Sunday.

I also detest bassists who "slap and pop".
That's a different genre.

Then again I have a deep regard for Billy Nelson is it from P-Funk?
He makes it sound good..although nothing that I would care to emulate.
(I can't play that funken music anyway. LOL)

I'm not much of a slapper or popper.

From what I've read, neither was Jaco Pastorius.

It all depends on context.
A good bassist knows when to shut up and keep it simple.
Sometimes a song just needs a sideman, not a soloist.
"My Girl" with a complicated bass solo would've been horrible!

He's the perfect example/concept of phrasing.

It's just as much what you play as what you don't play..

This guy is starting to get under my skin but I have to profess I don't speak his musical tongue.

Fantastic musician though and I didn't always think that about him.

You live and learn.

well I am sorry I asked the question
because it puts me in a difficult position
as I didn't originate the term'

I know that the term wanking is used by jealous guys when they see something they can't do or hear people praising something they are not involved in.

david gilmore i suppose is quite good
I find him a touch boring
I couldn't really get past 1 min or so.

then again I haven't been involved in intoxicants in decades

speed + little content = wanking

nothing wrong w playing fast...it's a big part of this genre but if you MUST play fast at least say something. i think this guy consistently does.

(and if you must keep talkin' please make it rhyme....)
