I hope it's enough - it's a nice large house but neighbors are a bit close and I'm on a hill atop a cul de sac. Don't want to serenade everyone!

I'm open to any suggestions on soundproofing.

Dane - you mentioned egg cartons - I eat my eggs at Waffle House! Where would I get some?

good question.. I guess, eat lots and lots of eggs.. :lol: , I would probably hit up the Mennonites that sell eggs,.. in your case though, you probably don't have many Mennonites to give you egg cartons..

Mike that fiber brace is put on the exterior of houses before brick goes on it! It is almost as good as that Home-A-Soat it is very good for sound proofing just don't smoke or ignite any thing on it! :wink:

Egg cartons will help cut down sound wave reflections inside of a room, but are not of much help in the way of actually blocking the transmission of sound through a wall. This stuff works really well to substantially reduce the sound decibel level all across the frequency spectrum, mass-loaded vinyl ... http://www.soundproofingamerica.com/mass-loaded-vinyl.asp

quality sound attenuation is extremely expensive.
so don't be mistaken about that.

good job should cost about 2500-3500 not counting work/materials involved in room finish.

good, relatively inexpensive sound attenuation cannot be done if the walls are closed in already.

cheap sound attenuation can still be done on a finished room, but it is;

a) ugly as hell and will, overtime make the room undesirable to occupy for any real length of time.

b) confining: takes up space in the room so if space is at a premium already this might be an issue.

inexpensive sound attenuation,
carpet remnants + foam under-lavment that usually comes with carpet.
egg cartons as been mentioned already, but it is usually best to put some type of thin foam or filter media underneath for extra effectiveness.

still expect to pay around 500 - 1000 to complete properly.
