After the foreplay it's all down hill. Being blackballed just for strangling a promoter ......... he got better :D

I don't like how bass players are treated. Seldom are they ever appreciated, given the spotlight or any recognition. Most of the time they get told "shut up and play..."

The spotlight's not given, it's taken.
Make it happen.

I have always contended that real musicians are noted for their musical creative abilities, before they are noted for their specialized technical skills. If you are just a 'bass player' with no creative inspiration within, then you are most likely gonna be viewed by the band more as a tool than a key musical contributor (even though Bass under any context is critical to song development)

I'm just saying, A feller has got to show that he can do more as a musician than just shuttin up anna playin...

I agree with Lynard...The Spotlight is "taken", not given.

Yep!

But I will say that I hate that you have little chance of making the money you used to be able to make. When I was coming along, the whole idea was to get picked up by a major label and work your butt off to earning some fame and fortune (of course many people got dicked around, but still . . .). And even if you didn't get signed, you could wind up on tour playing for someone else with a big name. There used to be a lot of money to be had, but those days are gone, and more of us musos are forced to keeping our day jobs, even if we do have a popular band.

But that's just life and you move on and deal with it.

-Equipment is such now that you can market anything, produce anything and sell anything you like. You can press your own cd's after working a year at Mcdonald's if you buy the right equipment. Studio's are not what they were 27 years ago. Now days, a 64 track studio is more a nostalgia thing for senti folk.
Your question was amusing.

well that's four things you listed that you dislike!

five if you count your take on the thread's question.

i'll play along....there's much i don't like but picking one that's sticking in my craw right now....

that'd be the goons from BMI/ASSCRAP hassling the few remaining places that still offer live music for their shakedown money.

The part where A+R reps try to claw your wallet for between 299 and 5999$ for nothing, which is btw what they really do..

NOTHING...
