Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.

I've gone through similar gyrations. I started in classical piano as a kid, went to Prog rock, rock and roll, punk, ska, 80s electronic (like Gary Numan), heavy metal, Industrial, Celtic folk, trance/electronica, and now I'm back to classical and World fusion.

It's been a really weird ride, but damn have I had fun. You will too.

Wow, that is a ton of genres. Yes, it has been a fun ride on my half so far. All these different types of music make me a better musician.

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.

Original Ska ,the "first wave" so to speak, predates all the stuff ya'all are talkin about.I believe it all started back around 62 with people like "Roland Alphonso","Rico Rodrigues",and "Don Drummond",playing in bands like "The Skatalites","Rolando Al and the Soul Brothers, and "Tommy Cook and his Supersonics".All had a whole lot of brass.

Simalar to Reggae, Ska is way to cool to lay dormant for very long.It seen a big resurgence some time later with the advent of "two-tone" groups such as "The Specials" "The English Beat"and the afore mentioned "Madness".

Check it out. Very cool indeed.

Yea, well I am working on a genre of music that is based on the "W" scale and is in 22.5/33 time.

It's played on a 1968 Olds Cutlass Air cleaner cover hit with a angry badger tuned T#.

It's awesome and I expect it to really catch on. :D

Glad some one found humor in my last post. :D

Actually from reading I did on the matter SKA is derived from Jamacan roots and has gone through several morphs with one of them recently being as Irminsul said in the UK. But the roots of SKA are of Jamacan origin predating the 1950s.

As I stated earlier big band, R & B, and jazz had influence on SKA and there have been several morphs of SKA. So the first thing we need to establish is which "morph" of SKA are we talking about?

I would bet my last harp string that the lady who started this thread was referring to the 80s (UK) Ska. It's really when it was most popular and had the most appeal to people who like harder edge music.

I used to be a fan of a local Ska act back in the early 80s called "004". They were one of those acts made up of the weirdest bunch of people you ever laid eyes on. But man was it fun to dance to.

Thanks for the replys. Ive heard a lot of this but didnt have a label to put on it. Thats one of the problems today is that there are too many genres and sub genres of music. When I was younger I liked Hard Rock, since then the genre has been sliced and diced so much that I dont know what to call my favorite form of music anymore. Im still moved by songs that have an emotional element to them whether soft or hard rock.

How bout it JW.

With the genres my favorite is "World Music".

What's next? Solar system? Galaxy? Hmmmm......

Ok, I am starting a grass roots movement for a new genre of music which will be classified as Galaxy music. Rush is the first music to add this genre because they are the best band in the Galaxy. :D

Not to mention they flew across the galaxy on their ship the Rocinante to the heart of Cygnus X-1. (See following lyrics from the album A Farewell to Kings / Cygnus X-1)

I set a course just east of lyra
And northwest of pegasus
Flew into the light of deneb
Sailed across the milky way

On my ship, the rocinante
Wheeling through the galaxies,
Headed for the heart of cygnus
Headlong into mystery

So they are the perfect to be the first band to add to the Galaxy Genre.

Ha, I got one to add in. The genre will be called: "Simply Crap." And I am adding every single band that was formed in 1997 and up to it. Lmao.

Just kidding around.

Peace out guys, GuitarAnatomy.

Galaxy Music. I will add Deep Purple for the song Space Truckin.

Wegman, I was in the music store today and the guy there told me a JCM 800 cabinet was considered vintage. I wonder what the hell that makes me. 800s were from the early mid 80s if I remember right.

So what am I now an oldie but goodie?

That's actually no insult. Music equipment of the electronic variety get rendered obselete in record time these days. Hell, look at software and computers. If yours is over a year old, you're operating on a dinosaur already.
