Disregarding the Mayan calendar tangent, what Bob was saying to begin with is leaving 'something for posterity'. It doesn't need to be $100/hour pro studio work - with 90%+ of people these days listenign to music on iPods or phones, the quality of the recording - whether its at 90%, 99% or 99.999% hardly matters.
You can get a Zoom recorder with 2 built-in mics, and just play your stuff live into it. Throw it up on a website or add a picture and put it on youtube. Viola!

Yeah I guess $100.00 an hr. is old school. With everyone recording their own projects in their personal studio's its hard for an Engineer and studio to charge that much these days. Me thinks there are probably a lot of studio's offering GOOD deals! So after giving it some thought and listening to what Jimmy paid for some recordings it can be done reasonably these days!
I know in the 90s we recorded an album and it cost almost 15K without the studio picking up half the tab it would have been 30K! The 15K was our actual out of pocket! We got 1000 cd's and 500 cassetts I think I still have about 100 cassette tapes LMAO!

Jeff I agree, but I have also noticed that 1 outta every hunnert or so engineers really knows wht to do. Those guys can really bring a project to the next level... All the rest of em...Well, If the artists sticks with standard guitar work, contemporary song-writing, and doesnt expect to explore theme too deeply, then they are a good bet.
