Sent Paul a rough mix of CCR's "Up Around The Bend" for him to add his magic. I'm excited to see what Paul does with it, Fogerty is one of the tougher, more distinctive voices in rock. Kick someass Paul!

When I sing a cover I don't try and copy any of the mannerisms/sound of the lead vocalist. I've done a lot of Muddy Waters tunes over the years. I'm no Muddy Waters. I just sing it the way I sing it.

Most people wouldn't be able to tell Muddy Waters from Howlin' Wolf from Robert Johnson. And with blues you're supposed to sing it your way. With rock and pop, however, some singers/songs are so distinctive it's difficult to do it "your" way. Alice Cooper, Robert Plant, John Fogerty - these guys have very distinctive voices that you must at least get the phrasing correct, if not the melody and any harmonies. Again, I'm excited to see what Paul comes up with.

Most people who know little or nothing about blues couldn't tell Muddy from Howlin from Robert but if anybody heard those three just one time would be hard pressed to forget each of their distinct voices. I don't have the vocal range or sound that Robert Plant and John Fogerty have. It would be silly for me to try and copy them in any way. If my version didn't have merit, well I guess we deep six that one. Neanderpaul has an amazing voice and whatever he sings turns out money, regardless. So I'm looking forward to the collaboration. A great vocalist + a great guitarist + a great song = $, a formula for success in the music biz.

Fricking awesome Paul!

When it comes to doing covers, you can either try to replicate the original or interpret the original. Both are hard to do in their own ways. But trying to cover a very well-known song is harder than doing a version of a lesser-known song.
