It is you who handled the situation poorly. Many have now tried to help you. If you know everything already, what was the point of asking? Believe it or not, some people here do know what they're talking about.

Why couldn't the people responding taken the hint that I needed to connect with someone around my age in Baton Rouge who likes more of the music I enjoy.

Why could'nt you just state that was what you were looking for in the first place?

My answer would be unchanged. Not everyone has the same ambitions for their musical life which will make it almost) impossible to find a person who fits the description of what you're looking for.

You are STILL handling this poorly. You are talking to me as if you are angry, and a lot of individuals are judgemental. For example, this was out of line here: "I have no real-world experience and don't listen to advise".

I don't know everything, and I need to talk to people in my area to get more specific advice. I know what I need to try in general (like bars, clubs, putting up ads at musicstores), but I need some new ideas of such specific places in my area.

I'm sorry for the confusion, and I'm sorry if I gave you the wrong impression.

And sent an e-mail to this person:

Here's what I sent:

"Hi, my name is Clifford and I'm 28 years old. I play the keyboard and enjoy playing a wide mix of pop and soft rock music. I'm wondering if you have any advanced students around my age who also play keyboard and who enjoy playing a wide range of pop and soft rock music. My tastes span the 70s to the present, and include such favorites as Madonna, Richard Marx, Adam Lambert, David Archuleta, David Cook, Kelly Clarkson, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Adele, and Pink to name just a few.

Here's a video of me playing one of my covers:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o87HiT15o2Q

Keep in mind that I'm not in a rush to get out and perform and I'm not interested in joining a band. I'm looking for a few GUY friends who I can individually invite over to work on some pop and soft rock songs together and continue improving our skills and someone who I can learn about songwriting and maybe even play around with electronic music.

Please, get back to me,

Thanks,

Clifford"

You're slowly getting the idea. Caution though - by asking for "GUY friends", you're making it sound like you're looking for something other than making music. Either search for friends (and then find out if they can play any instruments) elsewhere or search for other musicians. Not both at the same time.
Many times these schools will have open jams (there may be a fee to attend if you don't take lessons there) or shows. Ask about them, keep your eyes on their calendars.

If you only want advice from others near you, use the Browse feature here at BM to contact those registered in your area. There's tons of people registered who don't look at these forums. Note that people join bandmix most often to find gigs or to find others to be in working bands with. From what I've seen in my area, less than 10% want to 'just play for fun'.

#22 "Glambert" into the game. And he gets checked into the boards..

He's down, uh we'll have a stoppage of game while the stretcher removes the body from the ice. :)

And then Adam Lambert runs across the ice to save the little drag queen, but the hidden sniper picks them both off with 2 well placed shots to the head.

lol BLAM - PKOW

And then it was Miller Time..oh tonight is kinda special.. lol
Opps sorry that's Michelob..

Well, Mike, I don't know how things work in your area, but there's not much going on here in Baton Rouge. If I knew of a good solid Open MIc, I would consider giving that a try.

I don't know of any music schools, and if I was directed to another keyboard player in my area through someone on these forums, I might ask that person, but I don't know how to effecitvely use the browse feature. Some people don't even represent themselves well on here.

"Note that people join bandmix most often to find gigs or to find others to be in working bands with."

Since that's the case, can you help me find something more appropriate?

Thanks,

I'm sorry things got so crazy. GuitarMikeB was the only one who had the right attitude and was willing to take the time to at least try to understand what I'm trying to accomplish.

Everybody who did help. It was still appreciated.

It sounds like you're looking for friends more so than musicians. For the latter - you need to post some tunes if you can and spell out real specifically what your goals are.

If the former, damned if I know. I went to LA with 200.00 in pocket and that was before the internet. Within a week I had things going. I guess what I'm saying is determine what it is you want and then just start doing that.

Friends? Typically those are folks you bump into and end up getting along with - you meet at work, at play, shared interests etc. If you are a total blank even, now days there is probably a TotalBlanks.com social networking web site. Unless you're painfully shy (your posts don't suggest that) I'm honestly surprised you'd have to ask.

Thanks, but I need advice from someone who isn't quite so professional and who is much closer to my age. Also recieving advice from some of my music heroes would be nice too.

By the way, I know how friendships work. I'm just a little frustrated.

Also since this topic isn't working, I'm leaving. Sorry if I bothered or upset anyone.

The problem is obvious now....

women....you can't get along with them and you can't chop them into littles pieces and bury them in the backyard.

They find things to be offended about pretty easily. That's why I've never played in a band with a female except on a verrrry temporary basis.
