I think your post has insight and very carefully written to the message you wanted as clear as it was. Much truth in the matter at hand. Scoffers don't know the power of God and what He can-or won't do for you if you don't live right. It's like asking who do you believe, God or the devil. Who do you give weight to their responses. What can the Devil do for you that God hasn't already done. There are great people that do as they were made to do. Tom Petty does some of the most simplistic guitar work and riffs that make you want to say- I wish I could've done that. Truth is, it is his gift. Can't be Tom Petty. What IS YOUR GIFT? Try taking responsibility for your own actions, nobody 'gave' me anything, I worked for everything I have, when things aren't going as I want them to, I don't blame an imaginary devil, I take responsibility for then and set a course to resolve them.

The essence of the question here is "can one acquire greatness through a short cut (selling of the soul)?"

JW if your referring to learning a cover, then yeah I would agree...Practices is the only way... But how do explain guys like Mozart who did not sweat it through on his sonatas as the age of 12 ...He was 'gifted' with a musical ability... I might add that ability changed the form and face of modern composition. Folks call that genius... So the word 'Gift" is rather subjective I admit.

Then you have guys who have played all their lives and they never stand out. You can train a monkey to rip through some Van-Halen licks... But it was a 'gift' or genius in Van Halen, to create and execute his methods on that neck...

So maybe another word for Gift is 'Good genes'... If that's so... Than about 98 percent of the musician population in the world should probably hang it up...

I agree with Etu and JW, it all boils down to practice,
those who practice are better than those who don't.

I don't think anyone is born with the innate ability to
control the movement of their fingers on a piano or a
guitar without practice, even virtuosos, to be able to
perform at a master level.
