Thinking and knowing are two different things. I KNOW I'm that good. Nobody in town combines my bass sound and vocal ability. How many famous bass players are also the lead singers in their band? I can't think of too many. Try it, it's HARD to do. Not that I'm ever going to become famous in the world of music, I have no delusions of grandeur. That being said I LOVE to play for the sake of the music IF somebody isn't making money off me. I'd rather rehearse in my drummer friend's basement forever rather than perform a gig for less than minimum wage. I'm not asking for an unrealistic amount of money. Things are tough BUT not that tough that each band member gets paid minimum wage at least. The bartenders, waitresses, chefs, bouncers make at least minimum wage. Consider reasonable band pay as overhead. It's HARD WORK playing music well, I know. We've had this discussion ad nauseum on here, that means until ready to puke in Latin. I've had this same discussion with people in Kansas City ad nauseum. Simply put I LOvE playing music, but make money off me? Share the profit.

Bob, Geddy Lee comes to mind, Sting would be considered a pretty good bassist and singer, and oh yeah there is Primus, Les Claypool seems to do both really well. The guy with Kings X is really good, we opened for them years ago, so I saw him first hand.

In Memphis there are a bunch of bass players in cover bands who also do most of the lead singing, so I guess I dont get your point.

You mention minimum wage, well if you can generate $40 for a 4 hour gig then that would put you above minimum wage in my mind anyway.

Just my 2 cents, I know this is a vent thread, so vent away

Roger Waters. Jack Bruce. Paul McCartney (although he doesn't play bass all the time these days). Felix Pappalardi (shared vocals with Leslie West).

Minimum wage for 4 hours? Doesn't pay for the gas to get to the gig these days. Hopefully you've got a tip jar out, because (around here at least) the waiters and waitresses don't even get minimum, they rely on the tips.

Stll looking for a bass player in central Long Island...and I cant concur with Glen enough, it's kind of obvious we would all tend to play with people who can have a good time no matter what the situation versus a watch staring / gig-digger.

I also cant blame people for whatever their motivations are for playing or joining a band, but perhaps they would save us time and post on their profile what their minimum pay is if that is the main impetus. :D
