QUALITY IS LIKE THE FIRST THING A LISTENER HEARS OBVIOUSLY !!!!
You can't just play live and expect to get anywhere just by doing 1 THING...
You MUST RECORD ! AND DO A GOOD JOB !!!!
How hard is it to E.Q. & COMPRESS ????
Seriously if your master is in Mono your a joke !
I've been doing this 4 years and I've taken the time to learn how to record, edit, mix, and master better then these LONG TIME hard headed musicians...
IF YOUR GONNA DO SOMETHING DO IT GOOD AS POSSIBLE !!!!
TAKE THE TIME TO READ !!!!!...DO LOTS OF TRIAL & ERROR/ EXPERIMENTATION !!!!
If a kid like me can use Fl Studio & Superior Drummer and make your band look like a joke...
YOU BETTER STEP IT UP...
BECAUSE YOU WONT GET NO WHERE IF YOU DONT PUSH FOREWARD!!!!!!!!!!!
DON'T BE LIMITED TO 1 GENRE...TO ME THAT'S JUST STUPID !!!!
WHY DOES EVERYTHING HAVE TO BE CUT LIKE YOUR USING A COOKIE CUTTER????

I DON'T MEAN TO OFFEND ANYONE !!!!

JUST THINK ABOUT WHAT I'M SAYING HERE !!!!
IF YOUR THE TYPE OF PERSON WHO ONLY LIKES ROCK AND HATES
HIP-HOP ,
ONE DAY YOU WILL WISH YOU TOOK THE TIME TO STUDY HIP-HOP BECAUSE THERE ARE MANY THINGS TO BE LEARNED FROM EACH GENRE!

Joshua, I think there's a little confusion here... As you know, Hip Hop is really about the fusion of poetry slam and tight beats... . Very few artists actually produce something interesting...Most hip-Hop is centered on subjects or violence, promiscuity...or all the subjects easiest to grasp and capture.

Only a very few artists could claim their work to be that of real art. (I personally think Eminem is brilliant, albeit his work is loaded with angst....I like old school Tupac, The problem with most hip hop...is that today, it depends entirely on technical quality... There is no heart, no love, no philosophy...no art. Its all about the skill of arranging the beats and adapting the vocal to a meter. That's not art dude, that's technical skill.

I can actually write a software application that grabs music form the internet, captures the BPMs and does mash ups automatically at random and saves them. Then I could take that package and pretty much blow the roof off of any any modern venue that takes it on.. . BUT... I don't do that, because , as a musician, I find nothing artful or creative about that, whatsoever.

You should understand, that On this site, you are addressing real musicians. We aren't technical experts, and most of us don't have the cash flow to go out and get a certified engineer to produce us. But if we did, I guarantee you, we'd expect that engineer to have a very broad and formal background in real music. (Its why they get paid the big bucks)

So I really think its not fair of you to compare us, our type of art, against your ideas of technical skill. Its sort of like comparing avocados to cashews.

Just saying, dude...

Josh don't be so hard on Gramps, he's caught in
the music of the past, and can't see or hear your
music objectively. That's the problem with most us
old guys we compare all music to the music we grew
up with, and shy away from something different.
I think the problem has been around forever, old
guys feeling threatened by young guys.

Josh callem like you see'em and don't bow down to
anyone. Only the strong can walk in the light of there
own, the rest bitch about it.

LD I don't feel threatened by this whippersnapper! I just did not appreciate his attitude coming on here as a "KNOW IT ALL"! In My opinion everyone has the right to listen to their music of preference and emulate it. This kid basically said our music sucks and so do we. I never said his music was bad. I said he didn't have any posted on his site.
I am a grandpa and I am old, heck I even have a SUPER DUPER MULLET LOL! However I have been playing (PROFESSIONALLY) since 1979. Folks PAY me to play and they pay me good money to do it! I am not saying I am the best musician out there. I must be doing something right because the BEST bands in town always have me playing as their guitar player! :D

You know what I remeber about Houston
is the Mexican bars and the bands that played
in them, those people knew how to have a
good time, ah Rosa.

I'm a granpa also, and hard as a rock, I've been
playing in bands since 1971, when my 6th grade
band won the talent show.( We didn't get paid, but
it sure helped with that little 5th grade girl I was in
love with.) I played in a big band that opened for
a national act in the early 80s, until the star of the
national act went to prison on cocaine charges. That
band drowned in drug and alchol abuse.

I'm not looking to play in a band right now, and as for
doing something right or wrong, it seems the line is
blurred.

The young have always challenged the old, the wise
old guy uses this to his advantage.

Funny thing is I believe all Joshua was trying to say was don't cement yourself in one place. Try something new or different once in awhile.
I remember Klugmo challenging others to think outside the box. It may me think and I took him up on it even though he didn't know and i wrote a couple of songs that were more of a different style than my usual. One is kind of country-campy called Bird has flown. If nothing else it was a good exercise in taking up a challenge. And I got a few songs out of it.
Oh and Thanks Klug! 8)

Some of us don't like compression because it kills the dynamics of the music. Just because you have to turn up the volume control a tad for uncompressed music isn't a bad thing. After all, isn't that is why volume controls exist?
Compression was first applied to tracks by DJ's not studio engineers. A good many studio engineers are still against using compression. Compression is the reason that so many CD's sound like the music is yelling at you at any volume. And that is NOT a good thing.
Distorting the dynamics of a piece of music isn't welcomed by everyone. Compression should be renamed for what it is, dynamic distortion.

@Jahva
Thats what i was trying to get out there...
But i just ended up sounding like an @SS hole,
I'm glad you got some songs out of it though :)

@Slacker G
I know...a lot of times i find myself making amplitude adjustments in Melodyne...Then i lightly compress...I don't know why but i love the sound of distortion...especially on drums or the actual master of a track.
Although you are right does lose its dynamics and if your not careful the actual life of a performance.

I love using Distressors...THEY ROCK !

a wise man said once.

90% of what people say is really about themselves and their subconscious perception of them selves.
