OK. I'll try not to hijack. This discussion thread is about if music is in a rut. BACK IN TIME is not twelve tone at all, however making an effort to hit more, if not all twelve notes, without getting too strict about it, is a good way to get out of a rut. Though, I can't guarantee that it will save music careers. Sorry about making you guys have to hunt for the music site, but my Yahoo search engine doesn't provide me with the URLs.

Have we become so diversified in our musical tastes that there can't be a next "big thing?" Are there too many genres and sub-genres? Seems to me we're in a huge rut, a grand funk.

The world is too small, we don't need Record companies anymore. The thing that separates the men from the boys (no offense girls) is LIVE performance. A return to what made it fun in the first place Raw Talent, and a Circus on the side.

I agree with Mike Talbot. I've given up on the FM radio snot nosed, nu-metal, bytch boy bands that have been infesting the airwaves for some time now. I have found some music on a now non-existent internet radio station which I call " GOTH" music, but if I want to hear some of it today on last.fm or Pandora I have to do a search for SYMPHONIC METAL, and I can generally find that type of music again. Some of it has a slow classic rock beat with metalish guitars, and some heavy bass. Just what I was looking for back when they where playin disco and new wave music on the FM dial. I am a bass player so this greatly appeals to me, but I do agree with what the other guy said about music really being dead.
