A good musician is, quite simply, someone who makes music that others want to hear. It has nothing to do with schooling, hours practiced, type of gear, critical acclaim, genre or anything else, although good musicians often have these things in common. A poor musician is simply (again) someone who's music is not sought after. Hardly anyone, other than other musicians, cares about your gear; if it doesn't make sounds they enjoy it's crap.

Agreed. A good musician attracts an audience of listeners. A poor musician repels an audience of listeners. I have known both.

Yeah that's the piece. It's better on the second listen. I retract the noodling statement though. There's a lot more feel in it than I gave you credit for. It has some dark elements I missed on the first listen but I hear the Jazz influence... yet it's also some pretty Heavy/Art. Like it could've been a piece by Vince Guaraldi on acid. (That's a compliment)

Yup... "dancing bears" and 'purple microdot" I remember taking a ride or two when I was young and foolish. Never left the the galaxy but saw a few burning bushes.

When I was in the Army we were playing
war games and we were captured and held
as prisoners in a train car. It was dark in there
4 or 5 black guys in the train car started beating

I love my Les Paul, and let me tell you, it is a POS, but I have had it for 10 years, and I can still make her scream.

As for these "Gear Snobs" you are talking about man, I would never ever tell anyone they shouldn't try to keep learning. My advice to you would be to stop moving so fast, and maybe listen a little more carefully, and see if you can learn something, if you can't, or you don't, you haven't missed out on anything. I wouldn't ever give up that chance Broseph, but that is just me.

Having good gear DOES make a difference in your sound, ESPECIALLY when you are playing live. lol. It will NEVER EVER replace a good player, but it is a definite plus.

Thanks man, do you have any work up? I will take a glance. I am working on that "Johnny Boy piece" right now for a guy across the country. I have a lot yet to finish as of yet... I am sure you can tell lol...... but I am looking for some decent drums, and bass. If you know anybody that wants to work with me, let me know man!!!

Are you pretty solely interested in collaborative/recording type stuff using on-line resources?

If so, that's cool and you're probably doing it the best way...in fact...I know you are.

However, I am strictly old school. My essential plan is to just pound the street and play live at as many venues as possible until something happens. I wouldn't even want to record an album of any kind until I knew that we were popular enough to at least break even on it.

I don't have any recordings up, but you can certainly find enough of my lyrics here. If you were interested in potentially working together, I could very simply meet you somewhere and have an audition, of sorts, see if you like my singing or not.

I was in a band called Barometric Pressure for about four years. We were a Punk/Metal/Alternative band and played mainly at venues in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Columbus.

You live in Cambridge, which is about forty miles away from me.

Anyway, let me know. I'm planning to learn the bass and start my own band, but for the time being, I'm cool with just being a singer. If it really works, naturally, I would just stick with it.
