So true Scott, the sum is always greater than the parts, two heads are better than one, etc etc. I've recorded over 120 tracks in the past 25 years, some with bands and some solo. The band tracks are always better then the solo stuff, even though I may have complete control over the solo stuff.

If you're really an island, throw out your backing tracks and lets see you sit down with just a piano or guitar. You better have an outstanding voice and impeccable technical ability or it won't fly further than a turkey in November.

Yep, a little busking in the park and you find out real quick if you attract or repel a crowd. One of my friends was playing under the Banyan tree last year in Lahaina Maui and Carlos Santana dropped a $100 bill in his tip jar and thanked him for making beautiful music. True story.

RE the OP: WOW! they were in it to the max! The best that each had to offer. I was both stunned and humbled.

well unless you're
bob dylan, sun house, arlo guthre, frank zappa,
and a hundred others that had lousy tech and worse voices but had style and millions of devoted fans as well as detractors.
truth is, there is no accounting for taste.
hence the phrase.

Throw out my backtracks? Why that's the best band
I've ever played with, always in tune and in time.
Never late for practice, and I ain't got to pay them,
throw them out no way.Sometimes we only see what
were looking for. I don't have a outstanding voice or
impeccable technical abilities. I feel the music and I
honestly try to perform it the best I can, I've found this
gets a positive reaction from the audience, when I make
a mistake I play right thru.
Whens the last time you busked Johnny 7?
Busking, see you on the Branson Landing.

Lynard, Scott...You guys wont believe how the last 2 postings fit into my week...'

Beginning with Scott re: Music is a team Sport: I been writing/working on a Blues song...for a few weeks now... Anyway...There's this dive-bar in my town, been around for 40 + years . It started as a biker bar and the crowd was intensely rough... I Always stayed away from it... Until this week...

Walked in and they had a Blues-Open-mic night....

Well... These guys, who signed up... are serious-as hell-about having fun bluesmen...and they are damn good at what they do... But here is the most coolest part...I started a chat with a pianist there... Next thing you know...I'm getting introduced to a half dozen players...and I have never in my life felt such a warm reception as I did by these guys... So warm in fact, that I told them I wanted to do a song at the next open mic..and they all said hell yes...and "...we'll back you..." That, my freind, confirms the spirit of team work... WOW!

Now for Lynard...re: Island of rock... Wouldn't ya know...The song I am working on is titled

"Rock Solid Heart of Stone" - The BluePoetSouls
Words and Music By Grant Collinsworth - Copyright (C) 2012 - All rights reserved.

(Will be performed and backed by a motley crew of blues players... very soon...:)

When I was alone...
...got me a rock-solid heart of stone...
Yes, when I was alone...
I got me a rock-solid heart of stone...

I couldn't let it go...no no no..
...Held on to it... like a dog with a bone...

WHen she walked away...
...when my baby tol' me good-bye...
When she walked away...
...when that grey start fillin' up the sky...

On that rainy day...
That's when I learned...how to ne-ver cry....

[Break-Jam instrumental]

Now that I'm alone...
With that Rock-solid heart of stone...!
Now that I'm alone...
With that rock solid heart of stone!

I aint no prisoner of pain....
but I got no love.... that I can call my own...

I thought I could use...
... that rock-solid heart of stone...!
How could I lose...
with a Rock-solid heart of stone...?

Musta been crazy insane...
If only I'd have known...

...Didn't need that rock-solid heart of stone.......

[Break-End..Instrumentals]

Way to go Paperdog, reads good,
can't wait to hear the music.

I agree with about everything Mr Scott
says, I just like to prod him and here
him express his point of view.

Hard to hurt a heart of stone.

.The song is a standard 3 chords. Using a standard vocal, you can get a pretty good idea of the sound.

Cmaj7- F7- C7
F7 - Cmaj7
GMaj7 - FMaj7 - Cmaj7
