I agree with Sans about hand outs. The local news has reported that giving hand outs to the pan handlers is prohibiting the city from helping those help themselves. The same guys and gals at the same off ramps have been there for years. Give a man a fish and you'll feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you'll feed him a lifetime. We have had it rough in the past, but there are always people that have it much worse. I thank the Lord again for all my blessings in the name of Jesus Christ who was born on Christmas Day, and is the reason for the season.

Ever feel that New Years Day is unrelated to Christmas, even though it is part of "the Season" of holidays? Our Calender years start from Jesus' birth. As Christmas passes, and another year is counted, we are also acknowledging Christ's birth. 8)

Sounds like you've had too much egg nog. The two holidays feel unrelated to you because they are unrelated. Our calendar year does not start from Jesus' birth, which most historians believe was actually earlier in the year in August or September. All a new year signifies is earth's completion of a revolution around the sun.

I try to just make people i dont know smile, hopefully it makes them smile at the next person and on down the line, whether that happens or not isnt my concern, some folks may just think Im some goofy dude, but I do try to treat anyone I meet the way I would want to be treated.

My charities have always been with the
drunks and the drug addicts, I don't buy
them a meal or groceries, (maybe a pack
of cigarettes), but give them cash and
encourage them to keep on partying. Who am
I to judge, somebodies got to be the drunk
and somebody's got to help them to get drunk.
I'm here to help.

Lynard

What a truly outrageoius comment.

It worries me a great deal that I find myself understanding it. My pals from the homeless ministry I worked with in the nineties would kick my butt for that but sometimes people need something to make them smile.

That said, I try to be circumspect in what i give, and in what I say. So what if i fail? Always?

You know, Mike I hear ya, but I also agree with some of what Lynard is saying... The bottom line is...Can we positively effect the happiness of other children in God's cruel World.

One year, In San Diego, I volunteered to help feed Homeless on Thanksgiving.. It was held at a very large contemporary church... Now check this out...
The roles included doing face-painting / Temp tattoos for the children of destitute families. We were instructed to paint only crosses or other symbols of Jesus. Nothing else.

I sat there painting crosses and such for about 30 minutes, when a homeless woman stepped up and asked me if I would draw a pretty dolphin on her cheek. Well , of course.... I drew a beautiful dolphin for her. When she saw that dolphin in the mirror, she smiled, and then got teary -eyed and began to weep. I asked her what was wrong... She told me that it had been a very long time since someone had given her something she'd actually asked for... In short, she was exceedingly happy ... That day , I received the blessings of many Homeless people...
