Seems all too often I learn another of my old friends from my youth has passed.

None of you know Joe Hightower. But I'd bet y'all all know someone like him.
One of the few genuinely friendly and kind men I've ever known.
We use to party like crazy back in the days of our youth.
Lost in a motor vehicle accident last night.
Another ran a red light ... now his family is without him.

I seem to be shedding friends like a winter oak loses leaves in the wind.
My black heart sits sad this evening.

:(

Makes you wonder if more people are using their cell phones while driving, sorry for your loss. Kansas City lost a wonderful man, meteorologist Don Harmon at age 41. He could have been a famous comedian. He suffered from depression and commited suicide. I don't think there was a person in KC who didn't like him. Almost surreal.

We are all survivors, witnesses as well. Life is short, shorter for some than others. I'm not afraid to die. I fear what would happen to my family if I did. I think my friends would never find out if I passed. I have no one that would post it on bandmix. I'm sure he treasured his friendship with you George.

Sorry to hear about your loss, as we get older
(or at least I do), we seem to experience more
death. I live in the house I grew up in, and within
one block of me 5 of my friends that I grew up
with have passed, life goes on, but it is a different
sadder world. There is no way for me to cope I just
miss them more each day.

Sorry for your loss, may the Lord be with them.

A few years ago I was talking to a friend on the phone and the name of another musician that we knew and worked with from time to time came up. My friend told me that he had died recently and that led to remembering other musicians that we knew who had died. I believe we listed at least 35 - 40 guys that we knew personally who played in area bands that had passed on.
Now both he and his wife, also musicians and close friends, are gone. I bet that we could add at least 10- 15 more to the list since our morbid discussion, if they were still around.
It's always sad to see them go. Sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear that news George. When someone you knew that well
and had memories with passes. You feel like a piece of you went
with him. As we all grow older we realize its a short trip and reflect
on things that haven't entered our minds for quite a while.

I recently heard of a girl that passed by the name Mali Woods.
I didnt know her but went to her facebook wall and found out she
was a beautiful, young, talented girl. I watched her videos there
and was very sad knowing she was now dead as I watched her sing.

I came away from her page thinking I need to lighten up on my
views of the youth of today. As screwed up as many of them are.
There are many that just make me smile.[/b]

X2

Sometime I feel like I should have my own private seat at the funeral home I have lost so many family and friends.

Hang in there, move forward and life goes on.

Thanks for the thoughts condolences and prayers.
This is a second I've learned about in as many weeks.
I'm not sure what saddens me more.
The fact that they are gone from my experience for now or that our circles widened and dispersed with time and our contact if not our friendship was infrequent.

I'm a loner pretty much, not the huggie type if you know what I mean.
Still, these losses seem to hurt more with each incident.

Thanks again :)

It seems the loss of good people in this world increases withe the years! A co-worker that works with my wife was struck down with a very rare form of blood cancer. He just passed away 11-11-11. I am impressed with the show of compassion that my wife and her co-workers of UTMB Galveston have shown in support of his family! Eric Pownall was only 45 years old was from PA. He has a wife and 3 kids. His wife doesn't work and is home schooling 2 boys. The UTMB employee's have raised just under $10,000.00 to help them out. They are having a memorial today and going over after to decorate his house for Christmas.

Yes they do George and my wife is one of them! I feel so very BLESSED that God let our paths cross in life! She stays up late cooking organizing and helping the Family of Eric and everyone else that she can! She is the most UNSELFISH person I have ever met! :D

Give her a hug for me Jeff ... she deserves it.

I don't have all the details ( nor do I really want any more ) but my friend was killed by someone whom ran a red light.
Whether or not they were drunk, on their phone, texting, or just being selfish assholes is now irrelevant to Joe.

We take for granted how serious operating a motor vehicle really is.

We could fill thousands of pages of names of the people whom have been maimed or killed by incompetent or negligent drivers. Not to mention the shattered families, widows, and orphaned children.
And still the court system refuses to truly hold them accountable.
As if killing Joe with a truck or a gun were any different.

We need a gallows in the public square of County Seat in every County or Parish in America.
They should be busy every Sunday morning at dawn.
And every juvenile offender should be there to see the reality of what being responsible for your actions really means.
