WOW ... yes he did. I recall seeing this footage before.
Pretty cool though I get a few distinct impressions watching it again.

First off I've never been a PRINCE fan. But he can play no doubt about it.
Secondly you can have too many guitarist on a stage.

And thirdly.
I think that guy with the tambourine could use some seizure medications.

He will always be a legend to me. If all he could do was wail on guitar he would be the cream of the crop. But he sings great, writes great, and plays a boatload of instruments. I heard him asked on a VERY early performance "how many instruments do you play?" he answered "all of them" 8)

Prince is simpley, dam cool. He was barely even noticeable until it was time for him to bust out. I am a fan of Prince, but not from the beginning. I have been a fan of the man's for about 8 (ish ) years. He is just simply badass.

That was pretty darn good. Seemed to me it was like Prince did his initial solo, Petty was going to continue with the song and prince just took over.

Prince is very underrated as a guitarist.

Ive seen him twice and he had my mouth open.

That fellow had something going on. He owned that performance for sure.
usually those repitive jam things get real boring quickly but Prince made that sound alive - I loved his phrasing and control of it.

Down side? Red hat? Dude! :D

It's a great performance.

And that's what Prince is: a performer. He's way more than a guitar player. I love how the guitar is an extension of his body, how he thrusts it around, etc. His stage presence is amazing.
