We usually do a show around Halloween and Thanksgiving. I got a hold of the guy that does the booking at Simon's, our home base and he said they were already booked with rap/hip hop/r&b groups. I told him we do a style of rap called Crazy Rap, or Crap for short.

Jimmy we are playing a place called the Farm, LOL, they have on of those bucking bulls and everything, they wont give you a beer bottle make you pour it in a plastic cup.

First time weve played there in almost 3 years, the guy came around and offered to pay us what we wanted, I thought that was cool.

Its the friday after thanksgiving, isnt that Black Friday? Uhm, Im not big on Steely Dan, but maybe we should pull out Black Friday for that one.

Too bad the Dan's version of "Black Friday" is about jumping out of skyscrapers and not about shopping.

The biggest problem trying to cover that one is the backup vocals. Outstanding!

LOL, if we cover it, it will come out sounding like redneck hard rock!

Didn't Rick Derringer play on that one? He was a great player.

Jimmy I think Larry Carlton played on that album Katy something or the other, cant remember, I may be wrong.

Derringer is great but kinda had a more blues oriented approach to solos.

Thats just my take on it.

I looked it up that was Katy Lied

Elliot Randall was the other guitarist with Larry Carlton

either Becker or Fagan would play guitar sometimes

Yep. Becker played the solo on "Black Friday", Derringer played the solo on "Chain Lightning".

Im not really a huge Steely Dan fan, althought they did put out some incredible music, what always struck me was the clarity and definition of the instruments on their 70s work.

The engineering and production of those albums was top notch.

Of course as a guitarist there were some very good solos on a lot of those records also.

I cant really say why I just never was a big fan, I got offered tickets to see them at this winery in Memphis a couple of years ago, and passed on it to go to a motorcycle race.

They're damned good live, but you can't beat their studio recordings (Except for "Everything Must Go" which mostly sucked).

Of course I loved their great technical ability but I really loved their lyrics. We used to spend many hours debating the meaning of their tunes. Like this one. I think it's about a guy getting his gf pregnant:

Rose darling come to me
Snake Mary's gone to bed
All our steaming sounds of love
Cannot disturb her in her night
Or raise her sleeping head
All I ask of you
Is make my wildest dreams come true
No one sees and no one knows

Rose darling come to me
Snake Mary dreams along
I would guess she's in Detroit
With lots of money in the bank
Although I could be wrong
You must know it's right
The spore is on the wind tonight
You won't feel it till it grows

CHORUS:
Rose darling my friend
With only you and what I've found
We'll wear the weary hours down

Rose darling come to me
The clock is close at hand
All my empty words of love
Can never screen the flash I feel
Or make you understand
Honey can't you see
I know it's real it's got to be
Why not chase it where it goes
