J-HALEY wrote:Jimmy, this place is in a small rural town outside of Houston called Richmond. The funny thing is there was a HUGE party outside on some land right behind the Lonestar Saloon. In the first pic. there is a window behind the stage and I kept seeing people on horses riding by while we were playing LOL! There is also a place to tie your horse up out front and some folks were arriving at the gig on horses ROTFL!

You know, I used to live in Houston on Fountainview, blocks from the Galleria. Then I lived off Westcott (Off of Memorial Dr, toward downtown. Used to work at a theater called Equinox, on Washington Ave, right across the street from Rockerfellers Nightclub...It's where I met the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughn and his band mates, ... Country Joe and The Fish... many others... hell I even met Bush senior there at a BBQ in the parking lot at a Resturaunt /Bar & Grill called "George's On Washingtion" during one of his very early campaigns. I was in my early 20's back then.. What wild and crazy days...

Hey J, that looks like a great room. Just the fact that I see a stage makes me jealous! So are your guys doing the 3 piece+vocals format too? I'm really digging that arrangement in the current band. I find it allows you to be more loosey goosey on guitar just to fill in the sound. I find that for all the songs you might miss having another guitar for, there's more where a second guitar just gets in the way.

Yes Dajax we are mostly doing a 3peice with lead vocals. However we don't sound like a 3 peice. The drummer has a pad that he samples some things and activates as he is playing like bongo's and conga's. the base player does the Geddy Lee thing. He samples organ chords and assigns them to pedals and plays keyboards also. the lead singer is also a pretty good drummer, he doesn't play drums on stage though. He is also a fairly good guitar player and plays guitar on Amanda, & a couple of other tunes. We all are singers in our own right. We just don't have the range Jerry has! in the Journey tunes and other songs we nail the vocal harmonies I am the high false etta guy! 8)

J-HALEY wrote:I watched your video's and looked at the pics. of your band the other day. It looks like you guy's are a hit. Congrats. Is that an Ibenez guitar you are playing? That was actually some pretty good video! Some day I am sure we will get some video of this band probably when we play in Vegas in January.

I set up a FLIP on a tripod and my daughter kindof ran it - when she remembered to hit record anyways :D

Yeah, it's an ibanez. I have a Charvel 2 that I'm replacing the trem system with a fixed saddle cuz I really don't like wammys. I bought the cheapest guitar I could find so I had something to play while fixing up the Jackson. Turns out I kindof fell in love with neck so I'm kindof taking my time with it :)

Definitely get video! Even if you have a friend with an iPhone! I agree with George - it's great to see pics and vids of everyone - really makes the forum more personable.

Cheers!

J, I left Houston, @'84 because at the time, I was earning less money, than I was paying out just for bare essentials... Actually I had applied at Rice (was gonna do the Law school thang) and was accepted, but back then, student loans were not in the cards (I couldnt seem to qualify...I'll never know why... )
Well, I'd had enough... was broke as dirt ...But yeah those were amazing days in Texas... (I used to also live in Austin, Before I lived in Houston)

Yes 84 were hard times here in H-Town! The oil bust was really taking hold that year. In fact both my sisters and their families relocated to California for work. It got REALLY bad here. I have had some hard times here in Houston trying to make a living through out the years. I like it here but if I had a choice I would move to Austin for sure! 8)

Its never too late to grab the family, load up the truck and head to Austin :D

But , I gotta tell you, its changed a lot since I lived there. I used to live right by the UT campus (Nueces & MLK blvd). Now that's all conglomorated and the traffic is horrid. The downtown has expanded and they got all these dam toll roads everywhere. Mopac is a mad house, I35 is a madhouse...But....Barton Springs is still dick-shriveling cold.. lol!

Dog, I would love to move to Austin! Unfortunately its to complicated to just pack up and go LOL! There is the house we have been paying on for 10 years, The really GOOD jobs my beautiful wife and I have. The freakin bull calf in the ag barn I just spent my day getting certified to show at the Galveston County Fair in April. My youngest son is a senior this year and will graduate from high school. My wifes son that is in college, my son that will start college next year. The wife's youngest son that is raising the calf is a sophomore and is the last one. If the good Lord is willing and I live long enough to experience the empty nest syndrome I AM AUSTIN BOUND YEAH BUDDY LOL!
