GlenJ wrote:Dog, I actually would pay any player willing to come in and able to lay down some good trax. Specifically DRUMS.

My garage band, FRIDAYS, have gotten so much better that they are talking about playing out. They don't realize that the drummer has gotten back to what he may have been. I have been pushing him hard. Still not my drummer.

My Wed band I have a great bass player. The drummer is a bit rusty, again it comes down to the drums. The other guitar has a bigger ego than playing ability. The only way to control that is "CAN YOU PLAY THIS?"

I just started a Sunday band. Nice guys ETC ETC etc....

The point is just don't give up. You can remind me of these words and kick my butt also.

Thanks Glen. I hear ya and I havent given up... Just looking at it all from another spot in the ceiling

I just got a call from a guitar I was working with 2 years ago. His bar band is breaking up after 9 years.
We got along well, having 2 good guitars in a band is always a plus if the goal is to make a song sound good and egos are not an issue.

I've heard his drummer, though he's not great, he's not average.

Seems the 2 are tired of the bar scene, and Artie loved all the original material I was pushing and I was trying to do. We were using a practice studio and the band next door shut down to find out the tunes we were playing.

No matter the importance, Dog sometimes the strangest things happen if you don't quit.

I just listened to your tunes I think they're pretty solid. Nice vocals and songwriting. Plenty attractive enough. I've been doing some live gigs with a keyboard player doing bass. I'd rather have somebody pounding a P-Bass but not so bad I'd cancel gigs. It might not be ideal but not every band needs a bass player. Led Zep managed it and much as it pains me to say there are several really cool bands that had no guitar! Morphine for one.

I live in an area very much dominated by cover bands so I feel your pain but all the more reason to persist I say. Someone out there will be glad you did. Maybe even you :)

Totally agree...So I shall not quit, (that's for sure... ), Just gonna approach it from another direction. In fact I am talking to that coffee house owner about collaborating with me...I intend to sponsor and host a local song-writers contest. I have some cash prize to offer, and I have the support of a local recording engineer to provide some free hours to a winner. I gotta find a panel of viable judges, and the good news is the Perc can get the word out very broadly.
Nobody has actually ever done this in town, publically (At least not that I am aware of) . Then, one of the benefits...If I can draw a significant interest, then I'm inclined to spot some talents that I can approach for my original project.
How does that saying go? If I caint go to da mountain...den I sho as heell gon bring dat beyotch ta me.... !

..."woooord"....

Much Thanks Jon... I agree with you about persistance... I just gotta start this in a more humble fashion... So I'm gonna "slam-sing" amidst the slam poets.. :D

Yea, I used to think so too but I had to accept that only worked in High School.

Once people have jobs and responsibilities, that flies out the window no matter how much they wish otherwise.

The only way I've found to keep working is to be totally independant and self-sufficient as a musician. Once you don't absolutely need anyone to play out, you'll find that it's easier to hire people when necessary than to put a full-time partnership together.

I hated it at first but wouldn't have it any other way now....

And that songwriter idea is a total gem! Lead the way for others and you'll always be ahead of them.

Hey Jon Nilsen, thanks for sharing, good music, much appreciated.

Hey Yod,"lead the way for others and you'll always be ahead of them"

Damn, you one smart cookie. 8)

(that only counts if the heart is true and the chosen path is for the greater good and not for control of the many by the few)
