pretty cool, nice song . . . but still what is so genius about her again? I'm not getting it.

You probably never will get Amy. It's ok :)

Zip...where to begin...
Well, lets start with the fact that she took three genres (R& B, Soul And Jazz) and made an awesome mixture for commercial public consumption that no other artist has quite successfully pulled off in the 21st century. She turned uzo into Starbucks & honey, She put Fish & Chips under glass, and she shoved a lot of moxie square up the asses of a lot corn-bread wannabes with her fabulously gifted voice , replete with her Black on White, White on Indie texture and intonation , In short, her singing skills, along with her mastery and command of themes makes her unparalleled in her rank & class since the voices of Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington and especially that of Eartha Kitt. She did this all, without ever ripping out one lick of metal... and yet, her fans construed her to be a bit of a tiny goddess...

Oh..did I mention she Grabbed that brass ring as early as 22 years of age... ?

How old are we?

You mean Etu?
I've never held her up as a genius, but she had a lot of talent.

Excellent Point. I never grabbed it to begin with, which is probably why I am still alive today. ( I always swore that if I had been born in 1940, I would have died in flames during the 60's (from falling asleep with a cigarette in my hand)

The Houston Chronicle is reporting NO illegal substances were found in her system. The presence of alcohol was found! They still are not reporting the cause of death.

It's possible she was trying to quit cold turkey, and then wound up having some drinks, you can die of alcohol poisoning. Even if you quit cold turkey and have no alcohol, you can send your system into shock and still die. A lot of people don't know this and then you get the numbnuts who bragged about how they quit this or that cold turkey. Keep it to yourself, just because it worked for you doesn't mean that same thing will work for someone else.

Then again, her body just probably said "I'm tired of this sh*t" and checked out.

Maybe we'll never know.

Etu Malku wrote:Genius: something or someone embodying exceptional intellectual ability, creativity, or originality, typically to a degree that is associated with the achievement of unprecedented insight.

In the philosophy of Arthur Schopenhauer, a genius is someone in whom intellect predominates over "will" much more than within the average person.

“ Talent hits a target no one else can hit; Genius hits a target no one else can see.” —Arthur Schopenhauer

In the philosophy of Immanuel Kant, genius is the ability to independently arrive at and understand concepts that would normally have to be taught by another person.

So, would everybody say that Miss Winehouse fits these definitions?

I used to think 'genius' was important, until I discovered that the world hasn't changed at all, despite of the ever presence of many of them. It occurs to me that many people mistake the word genius for that of "special", "distinct" or "unique".

At best, I would describe geniuses as beacons of light , which we often encounter along our paths. The brilliance in being one of those lights is how uncanny the timing is, they appear when we might otherwise be blind, stumbling in our own darkness.

Show me a woman who tends to my needs when even I don't even realize those needs, and I'll show you a genius.

Show me a composer who lifts me out of my banality, at that precise moment, when I reside at the rock bottom of mediocrity... and I'll show you a genius.

The child, who can invoke the tiniest thread of joy and laughter in my heart...That is a genius.

Even the loyal family dog and cat... they surely are the work of a genius...

Point to anybody, who exists and is within the range and view of our own existence; one who asserts positive energy of any magnitude...any manner in which Luminescence can wax, and I'll show you a genius.

Well, perhaps there were 'legal' substances like Oxycotin and morphine (both faves of hers)?

Did he really? Or did he just shed some light on an artifact, in which the rest of us had then lost our minds, turned greedy and malicious? In such a case, all had already existed. Hence, the world didn't change. Just the magnitude of its same old behaviors, (which also came to light).
