Rack up two this week.
Played an benefit for HUNTINGTON'S DISEASE research last night.
The biker group whom sponsored the event ( first annual ) were gracious and generous, though we returned their gift to the band in request that it be applied back to the benefit.
They said they really enjoyed the energy of our show and our original music and invited us to be involved in the next years benefit.
They also cleaned us out of all the CD's I had printed sooo ... I have a lot of work to do.

I had to laugh though when one of the gents asked that we not forget the "little people " when we hit the big time.
I told him " you've made friends here tonight, all you got to do is give us a shout "

Truth be told though, we are in the groove.

I personally did not play all that well.


Heat, humidity, personal life distractions, I could list a thousand meaningless excuses.
Bottom line ... I had an off night, and this too shall pass.

George, you can have an off night in your mind and people still enjoy it. Usually my best performances are at rehearsal!

Yes, and the overall show I feel was quite good.
Steve played a really hot drum solo, Tony and Ray harmonized well, Eric ... well Eric always sounds good to me.

But I always feel I let the boys down if I'm not at %100. That's just how I'm wired.

I'm not kickin myself over it.
Live and learn from mistakes, then play on.

. George, I've done numeerous gigs where I thought I played like crap and the crowd loves it and vice-versa. The audience ALWAYS decides and apparently you WERE playing very well. In the end the AUDIENCE'Ss opinion is the only one that matters...

I think I know what you mean. When you're playing in a band you are two people: you the self critical player striving to be the best you can, and you are the swiftly reactive band member, who must not disturb the force (song). The latter moves fast to cover up any playing errors, while the former feels like a complete idiot, even though it worked ok.

With Dyce I remember we were playing a snappy tune and I missed a note by a half step. So I took my right hand, grabbed the left and pulled it up - like I'd planned the whole thing.

Earl the singer looked over and grinned , then mouthed the words, "I heard it!" Ouch. It really rules to play with guys you know are hearing you because when you're squared away, you know they are hearing your best. The best compliment you'll ever get is guys like that listening to your music (yours is pretty good btw).

An when you are being self crtiical remember what level you are at. A year ago you probably couldn't do some fancy lick that now you don't even notice you're playing. But don't we obsess about something we goof up and forget our successes. That's a problem with performance art.

When you play original the pain is worse. On a night where you get the chords right but just didn't have the feel; it's like you've smacked your baby or something.

The key though is keep wailing away like it's opening night at Shea Stadium - professionials can play a gig they remember as a bloody nightmare and you might never know it. Practice as an ensemble for a while, like that black group somebody posted a link to recently; where the bass, guitar and singer all did the same steps, and well! They can do that on their worst night.
