All that is of the Holy Spirit is of Christ. The lyrics are what is important anyway! Some deadly bands hide their intentions in mystery and unheard of screaming. During a live performance, the audience does not have lyrics sheets, and the burnt out noise of amps will destroy the best band. So the sound system should be fine tuned and in proportion to the drums. Very Holy Bands are in need of a very holy sound! If a band is evil as Hell the audience most likely doesn't know the lyrics. Some need to be saved from evil spirits that take over the act. Damning and crying out! So one should get to know the real Holy Christian Bands like those found on:
The Full Armor of God Broadcast, hosted by DJ Kuba The Demon Slayer.

Evil people don't have a monopoly on heavy metal. I like a lot of the Christian rock, like 12 Stones, Pillar, and Skillet. I do say that I don't understand Christian Death Metal. That is just a contradiction of terms. For that matter, I don't get Death Metal, period.

Vigilance Saints Arise,
So you get Christian Metal, but not Death Metal.
One thing it's like drinking you have to drink every day to build up tolerance.
And it takes more louder music to get the same effect! The trust factor is,
are they truely Christian? In their Album cover, Lyrics, and Life styles?
Thank God for Christan Rock, Metal, Industrial, Gothic. And Alternative,
something for everyone! Try Doom music some time. It's all out there!
I don't think your a Praise and Worship kind of Guy, from the kick ass bands
you selected! Try Demon Hunter It's middle ground.

All that groovy Christian Music out there!
God Bless.

I could probably go on forever on this topic. I'll try to keep it short. I think that Christian rock and metal bands are misunderstood because people who don't understand it simply don't understand it's uses. In my opinion, Christian metal simply places a seed or opens a door most of the time. Every once in a while God probably brings someone to Himself through this music, but it always has an effect on people. The idea of rock or metal music is more appealing to those who aren't Christian than something that starts out with "open your hymnals to page..." (no offense to anybody who uses hymnals, I grew up singing out of them). I work at a Christian book store, and many of the parents that come in looking for CD's for their kids are looking to get them away from any negative lyrics that the music they are listening to has. I think that using rock and metal for God makes it easier for somebody to past the stereotypes and say "hey, this isn't what I thought it was". Christian metal music helps take away from the whole "holier than thou" view most people have of us. Believe it or not, but the song Amazing Grace had it's melody taken from a bar song. Imagine how much controversy there was over that! Like I said, I could keep going on, but I better end it here before I really get carried away.

Good post.

Of course Christian rock is part of our society.
And we are here to stay.

Rock was and is the sounds of many of my generation.

It only makes sense that when I turn away from the negative lyric to the positive. That the sound that moves me would be part of that transformation.

Guitaranatomy wrote:This whole world is creepy. Metal and Christianity do not go hand and hand. It just does not fit, it is almost like sacrilege. Does this look like a religious metal band for you! Metallica ...

If I'm not mistaken, I think Hetfield grew up w/Scientologist parents (ref Some Kind Of Monster documentary)and while that isn't exactly "Christian" (whatever THAT is supposed to be), If I remember correctly, he didn't share those views and it caused a major rift in his family as he hit his teens. So, when I look at his lyrics on any of his songs, I'd say that they reflect a lot of his beliefs that were formed in rebellion to his parents view as well as society's reactions to Metallica's sound as they really started gaining a fan base and for a lack of a better phrase, became one of the primary bands who developed "metal" as it is known today. Lars has some pretty liberal views too, some would say. Good points though!

Christian? That's an easy one. There are only two actual religions:

1) Grace - assumes salvation through substitionary attonement of Christ - He did the work - you get the win.

2) Works - assumes there are a series of tasks or obligations you must perform to achieve salvation. This one is dangerous since you can never really be sure. You do the work. Some Christian denoms incorporate some of this which is a very bad thing.

Dave Mustaine was raised in a Jehovah's Witness household (see cat2 masquerading as cat1). But all's well that end's well. He bacame a Christian in the end after many years of conflict caused by weird househould.

Grace for the win ... works should be a symptom of your faith, not the basis for it.

Contemporary Christian music is actually the type of music I play and listen to. The Devil Wears Prada, August Burns Red, Texas in July, etc.

As for it not fitting into the typical "metal attitude", it may not. I'm not going to say that the usual thought when metal comes to the mind of someone who isn't a "metalhead", so to speak, isn't that of darkness, satanism, etc. That's the usual reaction from people I've seen anyway.

But, the thing is, that there is a whole demographic of people who listen to mainly or even exclusively this type of music. Without Christians who also enjoy metal reaching into that community, those who do listen to these types of music may not come upon the Gospel in a medium that they enjoy or can connect or identify with. I'm sure that there was a person saved through the music of Stryper back in their time or even the more modern Christian metal bands. Some people may not enjoy hearing a sermon as much as hearing God's Word through a metal song, something they've enjoyed for a long time.

God enjoys anything righteous we do in praise to Him. Does God like metal music? Yes, when used for His praise and ministry. I mean, saying He doesn't is like saying that God would still enjoy Bluegrass music if someone overlayed anti-God or anti-Christian lyrics on top of the banjos and what not.

You know I really don't like
metal at all, much less
Christian metal. But my boy's band
practices here at least twice a week
and there good and they play Christian
metal. And for 20 year old boys I'm
proud to say that those boys are better
men than I was at 20. I think it's the
Christian principles they embrace, that
I rebelled against at 20.
You guys rock on.

It is difficult to embrace something so foreign to our sinful nature.

Like hugging a red hot Franklin stove at times.

I'm sure it is somewhat easier for old married family men like myself than for younger men.

God grant them strength.
