Talented, experienced, hard working band seeks venues on Long Island and NYC that have a FOLLOWING. Venue must have the following requirements to book us:

- a regular crowd for which we can play our original songs and sell CDs to. We will bring our fans and friends to see us play but we expect you to bring in your friends and fans too so we can expand our fan base.
- an experienced and dedicated sound person rather than a bartender pushing buttons in between mixing drinks
- a budget to pay the talent, after all we have a budget to record, rehearse, tour and promote ourselves
- venue must regularly advertise our shows via both free outlets (facebook, venue website, venue mailing list) as well as paid ads in local music papers
- not ask us to play covers, as you have a jukebox to do that

Email us if you meet the above requirements and we will start a mutually beneficial business relationship.

Sorry, I just thought it was funny that some band went out of their way to knock the club scene. Did I tell you about the time we had some overzealous fans flyer a neighboring club. My God it was true, but it was worse than being accused of adultery.

I can understand their frustration I guess.
But after all it is not the venues fault is it really ?

I've caught some flak by saying this but I stick to my op.

Damn few people go to bars for music, or care who is playing.

As long as they get their drunk on and can fantasize about scoring a piece of ass ... that's is all they really want out of life.

Been there done that. Found, A NEW WAY TO LIVE

How's that for a shameless song plug ...

If anyone cares,, The musicians available has turned into a chat room here on CRAIGS LIST>long island. Its so funny its pitiful, because the only way to post an answer is to post a whole new add. It was so much simpler in the old days,,, When you could just fight on B/M.

I wasn't going to get involved in what seems to have become a FORUM discussion over one funny post.

RE::: Venues has forgotten or never knew what the Island music scene was. I can't and wont be able to cover everyone,
but in the 70s and 80s we had one of the most incredible musical landscapes in the USA. Even small unknown bands were
busy playing their "originals" (I hate that term), and when they were playing covers they would have the nerve to change it up
to show some musicianship and talent. One of the other posters also pointed out the change in societal values that changed
the way we look at DWI. This had a tremendous effect on available playing opportunities, bars can't stay in business if they don't
sell booze.

I feel sorry for all that missed the golden age of the Island music scene. Remember, just to name a few, The GOOD RATS, THE THRILLS,
THE LINES, SWIFT KICK , FANATICS, ZEBRA, BROKEN ARROW, LLAMA, RANDOM SPEED,and THE STANTON ANDERSON BAND.
These were just a few that many fans followed, BECAUSE THEY PLAYED THEIR OWN MUSIC. These are just a few. OH by the way, did I forget
to mention BILLY JOEL, BLUE OYSTER CULT, PAT BENATAR, and TWISTED SISTER. I thought DEE SCHNEIDER was one of the funniest rockers
I'd ever seen, when he played OBI north. What a great guy and community person he turned out to be.

Those days are gone. If you want to play the bars I wouldn't discourage any one, but don't expect to get rich. I'm surprised that there are any bars left at all.

Few on B/M are from NY. LI used to be amazing. Here was a reply to some of the stupid and nasty comments on Craigs List. Sad but True.

I would also add Talking Heads, Blondie, The Ramones, Television and Tom Tom Club to the list of geat bands from NY.

Playing at bars sucks but it's the venue 90% of us play at the most. I turn down more offers to play than I accept due to the fact that it's hard to get people to come out and see you more than once a month. Since we're a local band and don't tour (our preference) that's about all we can expect. Make the best of what ever situation you're in and have fun.

Glen, I doubt this was a real ad from a real band. I think it was critical commentary on the ridiculous state of live music these days.

Yes Bob, it was a comment on the state of live music. Pretty sad. In the end the local governments are protecting people from themselves. Thus the end of live music in bars.
I lived through this change in societal attitude. Hey, next week it will be Chocolate.
