Actually Craig's list is simply a bulletin board, that's doing ist job quite fine. My postings always show up as expected and my privacy settings remain intact. Haven't had any issues with the medium...
Now... The butt-heads that respond or advertise...that's another story. In my town of over half a million people, I cannot land a single bassist. At first I thought... sheeeit... they are all so good that they are too busy for creative side projects... I soon realized, (after many responses to my audition instructions) that they weren't that good at all. I ask you this... How freaking hard is it to discern the difference between a thrash song and a folk song? I mean, if you need to write a bass line for "Like a rolling Stone" style anthem... You wouldn't throw in a metal base and shout l"et the bodies hit the floor..."... Anymore than me breaking out into a GOP political discussion inside this context . You get the idea, right?
So how in the hell is it ...that with sizable population, it is still so difficult to find the right player...
I have some theories:
1) I must really suck that bad, that people won't have anything to do with me.
2) or They must really suck that bad that they are ashamed to reveal themselves to me.
3) or I must have picked the most banal and uninteresting, outdated genres and I should just let them go now...
4) or I'm actually pretty good, such that at least I qualify as a real Musician... where as...most other owners of musical instruments really aren't musicians ,after all. (I know that my owning a football does not make me an NFL player). Thus maybe they are a majority of leisure , Sunday-driving, glory hound-cause -its cool-to do that" players and I am the minority of "Gotta crap out another expression and hog the road with it" player.
So basically, Craig's cannot decipher and weed out the posers and idiots. It cannot release the False Musician alerts.
So like EBay, maybe Craigs list needs to provide a "rating" button for each response a recipient is presented with.
I'm tired now... off to bed with me..
