Actually Craig's list is simply a bulletin board, that's doing ist job quite fine. My postings always show up as expected and my privacy settings remain intact. Haven't had any issues with the medium...

Now... The butt-heads that respond or advertise...that's another story. In my town of over half a million people, I cannot land a single bassist. At first I thought... sheeeit... they are all so good that they are too busy for creative side projects... I soon realized, (after many responses to my audition instructions) that they weren't that good at all. I ask you this... How freaking hard is it to discern the difference between a thrash song and a folk song? I mean, if you need to write a bass line for "Like a rolling Stone" style anthem... You wouldn't throw in a metal base and shout l"et the bodies hit the floor..."... Anymore than me breaking out into a GOP political discussion inside this context . You get the idea, right?
So how in the hell is it ...that with sizable population, it is still so difficult to find the right player...

I have some theories:

1) I must really suck that bad, that people won't have anything to do with me.

2) or They must really suck that bad that they are ashamed to reveal themselves to me.

3) or I must have picked the most banal and uninteresting, outdated genres and I should just let them go now...

4) or I'm actually pretty good, such that at least I qualify as a real Musician... where as...most other owners of musical instruments really aren't musicians ,after all. (I know that my owning a football does not make me an NFL player). Thus maybe they are a majority of leisure , Sunday-driving, glory hound-cause -its cool-to do that" players and I am the minority of "Gotta crap out another expression and hog the road with it" player.

So basically, Craig's cannot decipher and weed out the posers and idiots. It cannot release the False Musician alerts.

So like EBay, maybe Craigs list needs to provide a "rating" button for each response a recipient is presented with.

I'm tired now... off to bed with me..

Never used CL myself, I've heard enough reason to not use it.
Bench for 2 is a good song reminds a bit of G Harrison.
Musicians can be fickle flakey folk. Not all but it seems a good majority. I've been trying to find a vocalist for months, and the search goes on. I don't think you should question what you do or try to change into something else, just be yourself.
That's the point of it all isn't it?
Good Luck to you.

If I was looking for a band/group/person to play with on any web search the first thing I look for is a song set or samples of the music. If that is not there I wouldn't wast my time. When I formed my last two (very successful) bands, it was all layed out for them. That way I didn't wast their time or mine.

Indeed Jeff, it is the point of it all. I think the fickleness in many musician folks comes from the paternal/maternal instinct over their own songs... In fact, I've noticed the established legends out there seem to get past that ... (Can you imagine if Clapton had held back...? )

Thanks for the kind comment on my tune... Your tunes ain't shabby either. Definitely got a good ear for the textures and dynamics.

Good luck on your search...

I suppose that's no different than a resume. The way I handle it ... The Ad goes out, interested parties inquire, I schedule an Audition; The fun part goes like this: I really don't give a crap what they've done in the past... I am not necessarily interested in wading through their play list at this stage.
I mean, I don't even give a sh*t if they 're a blood relative of the best legends out there... What I care about is how well they can adapt their instrument, to my sample composition (creatively speaking). If they can't take my 2-bit single track melody and somehow own it with their own signature, they sure as hell can't do it with a hit- single effort and thus I have no use for them.

The single track audition saves a lot of time. They get to hear a piece of me. If they think I suck...they move on..no hard feelings. If they want in... They are asked to lay down their track over the sample.) .

I can usually tell in the first 8 bars whether these guys have what its gonna take to satisfy my musical /composition/ creative needs.

I kind of laugh because some of the better musicians I have encountered didn't really have to do anything fancy... they just had to be musically/lyrically credible and honest.

Maybe that makes me an asshole...but it is what it is... I figure I have absolutely nothing to lose... by being picky... (no reputation, real or perceived to defend)

Agreed! In fact, even the little dogs that manage to jump the fence, they get to bark loudly, but still... nobody (but the dog-catcher) ever picks them up.

They weren't "very successful" or I would have heard of them.
